Start-up instructions I have just purchased a Magellan 3100 and cannot get it to turn on. I've plugged in the computer adapter, but no results. Do I need the SD card inserted?

I'm confused? Did you plug in the charger or the computer adapter. It needs to charge using the power cord. The USB cord will likely not charge this unit.

he following advice pertains to the following magellan gps systems.

Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050 and 6000t

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while its plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not start..read below

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to get further help.

I just got my Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS unit. I let it charge today and tonight I went to go do the available update. However, during the update, the update stopped and it told me that the USB port could...

hi simple181

you can if your computer can still see your gps and if you backed up your files before you did the update. if not, i do have the files, but your computer needs to see your 3100 and you need to do a few things before you start.

its alittle nerve racking if your computer cant see your gps, specifically the tfat (not the sd card)

#1 does your computer see your 3100

I purchased a Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS 4 years ago and I want to upgrade it. I also have a USB connector cable to download the updates but I don't know the proper procedures. Can you direct me to a...

hi, any and all updates for your 3100 can be found HERE ...if you decide to get the 2.18 firmware (which i recommend) because it adds Alaska, PR and Hawaii maps to your 3100 and fixes some major bugs, but beware, the firmware update for the 3100 is very large and can take up to 45 minutes to install and can NOT be interrupted, if it is, it will render the 3100 inoperable, so follow the directions to the letter.

read the instructions carefully

keep in mind, if your gps dies while updating, it will be not be usable...if the power goes out to the computer in stalling the update, the unit will not be usable.

im not trying to scare you, but i buy these all the time where someone has tried to update their 3100 and either the battery died or they unplugged it before the update was finished ect ect.

its actually very easy but magellan doesn't give enough warnings as to what can go wrong if your gps dies or your computer restarts ect ect ect.

Magellan maestro 3100......will turn on, but then just stays on a warning screen?? Do i need sd card or anything?

make sure its charged good, then turn on your 3100. after it boots up, hold the power button for ten seconds, when it turns off, turn it back on.

that should work, but if it doesnt, hook your usb up to it and your computer and see if the computer can see your 3100. if it can, go HERE and download the 2.18 update and that should fix it.

NOTE: read the directions entirely and do not unplug the unit until the Update wizard instructs you to do so.

either plug it in to the wall charger or make sure the battery is fully charged.

unplugging or losing power while updating will render the unit inoperable!

be patient, this update takes about 30-45 minutes to install..its 1.76GB

if you need further help, let me know by replying to this post.

Hi My Magellan Maestro powers up with the Magellan screen and the bar scrolls but thats all it does? Carl Lucas Aberdeen MD

i just replied to a fellow with the same problem and since your problem is same, ill post what i wrote him/her but try a hard reset 1st..turn the gps on then locate the little pin hole on the side, using a paper clip, push reset....if that fails, try the 2.18 update if you havent already.

updates for any magellan can be found HERE
but read below first before getting the update

i cant stress enough that patients is a must here. this update is huge 1.75GB

follow the instructions below whether you have updated your gps already or not!

There are few ways to solve this problem. i assume you installed the 2.18 update for the 3100 and assuming you tried the reset already, try and run the update again and follow the directions to the letter..make sure the battery is fully charged (i also keep mine plugged in if the update doesnt say not to) and do not try and run the update across a network. this update is huge 1.75GB and can take an hour or so depending on the computer..do not interrupt the update process. if you do not have the 2.18 update read me file, i can try and post it here, but its in PDF and dont think i can post that

if all else fails, magellan will fix or replace for free any of there gps that were rendered inoperable due to one of there updates.

either solution will work but magellans going to tell you to run the update again anyway before sending it back.

i gave you the 2 easyest ways to fix it,but
there are other ways to get it running again, but if your not comfortable copying and moving files...youll make it even worst then it is.

hope this helps.

check the audio out port..A faulty port can result in the on board speaker cutting out or muting out. try connectting an external speaker jack into the audio out port and slightly wiggle it.

I do not recommend but open up the unit and check for dry solder at the speaker end

If all ok, it might be a faulty speaker coil. replace with similar impedence
