Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Washer stopped working

The washer is only about 3 years old and has been use only on weekends, if that. It ran fine over the weekend but for the last load it filled up and then nothing. The circuit breaker is not tripped and I have turned the timer to make sure it is not "in between." If I put the load size between sizes, it starts to fill. There is just no agitation, drain or anything involving the motor.

Any ideas?

I pulled the switch out (destroying it in the process) but confirmed that when I mechanically closed the switch the washer worked.

I have ordered a new switch and now the challenge will be to install it. What are the problems I am likely to encounter in accessing the connections for the switch and installing the new one in general.

The problem was in fact the switch. I replaced the switch, buying it on line, and it cost about $20.

Sounds like an electrical problem, but it can be in any of 3 (or 4, depending on the washer) totally different areas:

1 - The timer could be defective, not sending voltage to the motor.

2 - The motor could be defective.

3 - Something in the wiring (or a fuse or circuit breaker inside the washer) could be defective.

4 - If it's a computer-controlled washer, something in the computer could be defective.

Unless you're familiar (and comfortable) with working with live (110 volt) wiring, have and know how to use a test light or meter and have a schematic diagram of the washer (most of them have schematics on the inside of one of the panels) - and know how to do signal tracing, I'd leave it to a repairman. Electrocution, even if not fatal, can run up some huge medical bills (like from a shattered elbow, when you involuntarily pull back from the wire, and there's a wall stud in the way).

Water not filling on washer

the inlet filter is probably clogged restricted and/or inhibited flow of water into your machine.
These things happen, and cleaning out the filter is a good first step to finding the problem.

Washer wont fill up, keeps draining

If the cycle does not stop draining that is usually because of a faulty membrane switch that controls the water level in your appliance.
The faulty sensor cause the machine to think that there is still water inside, even when water has drained completely.
