The thermostat on most internal combustion engines controls the flow of coolant to the radiator and this is fed into the top tank of the radiator. The bottom hose is normally at the inlet to the coolant pump.
Vehicles with AC will have two radiators, and even some, a third for transmission or oil cooling but the largest of them will be the one handling engine cooling.
Locate the topmost hose of the radiator and simply follow it back toward the engine and it is normally connected to a dome-like fitting, under which you will find the thermostat.
If you are experiencing overheating though, it may not be a failed thermostat; this can be caused by a radiator blocked with debris, an internally collapsed hose and worst case, a failing head-gasket. The latter can fail in several places and overheating is often caused by the failure of it between coolant channels and one or more of the cylinders. This allows passage of hot combustion gases directly into the coolant flow.
Check the following: the overflow bottle for traces of oil contamination and possible odor of exhaust fumes, the oil dipstick for a milky deposit and when the engine is running, the overflow bottle for bubbles.

The thermostat is located under a housing bolted to the engine. To locate the housing, follow the large hose coming out of the top of the radiator to the engine.

it sounds like you busted the Main band, it controls the whole actions of the tranny, since you didn't say anything like (it sounded like crushing rocks, etc, if you go to your local autozone, advance, kelly, pep boy's, chances are you can loan out a "decoder" it'll plug in I think just under the steering wheel on the "left",copy what codes it is "throwing", and that will tell you "exactly" what went wrong, so you can figure out if you want to "trade it in for that "gas guzzler" $4,500 credit, or replace the tranny", please let me know if this helps your problem, and if I can help anymore, god bless and try to have a good 4th.....

2006 ford taurus sel bogs down under acceleration, have replaced fuel filter and fuel pressure sensor

Locate the mass air flow sensor. It will be located on top of the hose coming from your air filter. Walmart sells the cleaner. You could go to Autozone (if check engine light is on) to see if the code is indicating such. Watch this video carefully and follow the instructions. This fixed my daughter's Corolla and should be cleaned periodically.

The "L" is missing from the the "SEL" on my 2001

For emblems I go to the junk yards/salvage yards. I usually go in and just peel them off, be careful and take a good blade for removal. The dealer charges ridiculous money for emblems. Salvage yard probably only $5 maybe less.
