Installed new motherboard for Dell Inspiron 1000- blank screen

I installed a new motherboard for the Dell Inspiron 1000, when it powers up it shows the Dell screen asking F2- go to setup or F!2 - go to system boot. I tried both, nothing but blank screen. I can't get to bios with F8? Any suggestions?

The F5 and F8 functions are normally used by Windows to shoose between C:\, Safe Mode and normal boot.

Setup is a function of the BIOS manufacturer and it could be any key but is normally F1 or F2 as the screen says in your case.

I don't know what your specific problem is but it is a new board and sometimes they don't survive the installation due to improper handling.
The almost universal use of CMOS technology makes some of the chips very sensitive to static discharge even with countermeasures in place to protect them.

Hi

Its a common issue for DELL Laptops usually if the battery and charger are working fine the culprit is the motherboard. If its still under warranty have them replace the motherboard and it will be good as new. Thanks

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

Screen goes blank during use

Go to your settings menu and adjust the bar that says to turn your screen off after a minute.  If that don't work then have IT open this puppy up and replace the bulbs or inverter.

Motherboard failure. You can find replacement motheboards on Ebay but this is such a low end system it isn't really worth repairing

Dell Inspiron 1000 notebook won't turn on

The motherboard is bad. This model had a fault where after a while the North Bidge heatsink would break off and short the motherboard distroying it. This problem is something to not fix, it is not worth it, cost more than it is worth.

Graphics cards

I believe the Inspiron 1000 graphics card is integrated into the motherboard. To be sure, go to following link: www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag", (serial number) of the 1000 laptop. Select “System Configuration” on the left hand side under “Browse By Category”. If it is integrated then you don’t have the option to upgrade the graphics card.

Go into the diplay properties, under the screen saver tab there is a button marked power, open this. Under one of the tabs there is a section that reads, when I close the lid, under this section set it as never.
