Question about Maytag MAH6700AWW Neptune Front-Load Washer

1 Answer

Maytag Neptune Washer dispenser unit has mold and mildew inside top of dispenser compartment.

Maytag Neptune washer dispenser housing compartment has mold and mildew on the top of the inside dispenser compartment where the small water holes are. I took the dispenser housing for the drawer out of the washer and cleaned it with bleach. How do I keep it clean? I remove the dispenser drawer after each use to dry the area out. I also couldn't figure out how to get the top housing assembly separated to thoroughly clean behind the holes. It looks like the 2 pieces are sealed together and I didn't want to break it.

I love this washer and don't want to replace it! It is working very well. The only issue is the mold and now that I have a handle on it, I wouldn't switch. I was hoping for an easy solution for keeping the water holes clear. For now I am using an old toothbrush with bleach after I am finshed using the washing machine and leaving the dispenser drawer out of the compartment. My old Neptune was constantly having repair issues which were always covered by the warranty, but a pain just the same. Thanks for the alternative. I'll pass it on to others looking for a new washer.

The problem isn't from the drawer end but the holes ABOVE the drawer. Bleach in the drawer doesn't seem to resolve the problem at all.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Which compartment does the address or the bleach go into when cleaning my maytag bravos 300 washer?

You can pour the bleach in the drawer every time you do white loads and it will stay clear too!
Just flush it out good before you do colored clothes or you may get a small bleach spot on a red shirt !

Remove front panel, undo top panel & lift up, check wax motor (red / brown unit above / top of door), usually burnt out taking control board with it. If you are going to repair fit 5 amp fuse in line with wax motor or fit later model door lock mechanism.

Where do you put the soapin a maytag neptune

On the neptune washer, on the top there is a dispenser on the left hand side, lift up the lid, there will be 3 compartments, the compartment closest to the control panel is the one you put the soap into, the middle compartment is for bleach, the other one is for fabic softner.

Is there any kind of recall on a Maytay front loading washer, model #MAH6500AWW? I am having problems with mildew in the rubber part and terrible smelling water in the bottom.

The cleaning process for your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer, for example, requires some time and patience. Over time, your washing machine will need to be cleaned. It can develop offensive odors through multiple wash cycles. This makes the washing machine less effective at cleaning the clothes you put into it. Maytag offers some sound advice for cleaning your front-loading washing machine.
  • Pour 2/3 cup of liquid chlorine bleach into the bleach compartment of the dispenser drawer of your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer.

  • 2

Run your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer on the "Clean Washer" setting. Press "Start" to start the cycle.

  • 3

Leave the door open once the cycle is complete to allow the inside of your Maytag Neptune front-loading washer to ventilate and air dry.

  • 4

Look closely at the gray seal of the Maytag Neptune front-loading washer's door opening. This seal can have a buildup of debris or detergent residue.

  • 5

Spray the seal with an all-purpose appliance cleaner and scrub away any debris or residue with a cloth or scrubbing pad. Dry with a clean cloth.

  • 6

Remove the soap dispenser drawer. Press the release lever and lift it out to clean.

  • 7

Take out the inserts and rinse them and the drawer thoroughly.

  • 8

Wash with a mild soap and cloth to remove any residue. Dry thoroughly before replacing.

  • ALWAYS LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN WHEN NOT IN USE! This prevents the mold and mildew from forming once you get it cleaned.

    Smells like mold or mildew

Wash an empty load with bleach. This may wash out mold or mildew stuck in the water lines and pump. If it seems to help, do it again.
    This is for internal issues.
If the problem is external, the machine may just need a good cleaning.

My Maytag front load washer has a string odor when you open the door. What causes this and how do I fix it?

Most front load washers have an issue like this. Try cleaning the seal around the door with a cleaner that will kill mold and mildew. If that doesn't work, try running an empty cycle or a whites load with bleach added. There was also a known problem with the drain trap I believe it was -- a local appliance parts house could probably give you more details on it.

Our towels and clothes have a mildew/musty smell. when I spin the stainless drum inside, i can hear water sloshing around.

Towel mildew odor is transferred from the washer to towels and clothes. The washer must be cleaned first. After cleaning the washer and towels washing habits must change to stop mold smell from returning.

Washing machine mold / mildew is caused by:
#1 cause is overuse of detergents. Detergent companies are notorious for instructing to use too much detergent. Especially with soft water or when using liquid detergent no more than 1 tbsp of any detergent should be used.
#2 most common cause is using fabric softener because it's dispensed in the rinse cycle and will coat the inside of the outer tub with residue that is a food source for mold to grow.
#3 using only cold water for washing is fine but makes preventative maintenance very important. A weekly hot soak will dissolve odor-causing residue from inside your washer.
#4 not using the washer. If the clothes washer isn't used very often maintenance is especially important. If leaving for a vacation it's a good idea to clean your washer. Do a search to "remove washer odor" to read just how big the problem is. There are all natural washer cleaners that will also remove mildew odor from towels and clothing after the washer has been cleaned.

Mold and mildew in the Maytag Neptune MAH5500

The new boot has an anit-mildew treatment and should resist any new mold. Also, you should always use the hottest water possible for your clothes, the hot water helps kill the bacteria that causes the odor. Also bleach will kill the bacteria and you should use bleach whenever possible. If you don't like to use bleach on your clothes, or have an allergy to it, then once a month, run the washer without any clothes on the normal cycle, hot wash, and put bleach in the soap dispenser and let the washer clean itself out. The boot is fairly easy to replace except for a spring that holds the boot to the tub front. The spring has a lot of tension, so it is difficult to hold both ends of the band and one end of the spring tight enough while streching it. I usually do it with a pair of vise grips and a pair of pliers, but I've replaced dozens of boots. You may need an extra hand to help with your first one. Other than that, if you pay close attention to how it came apart, and align the all the slots on the boot to the tabs on the tub front, and door shroud, than you shouldn't have any problems.

The new boot replacements are anti-microbial have a smoother surface and are designed to be more resistant to mold issues with proper care. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of the old boot replacements out there. The part number for the upgraded boot is 12002533..., This part number supercedes all prior part numbers for the Neptune boot assy...Hope this helps
