Question about Sony TC-WA7ESA Single Cassette Deck

Open Question

Can't open cassette well door

I have a Sony TC-WR890ES dual cassette deck I bought new several years ago. The problem is that I can't open the cassette well door. I have the cover off and was able to get the door open and now the other door isn't functioning. In the process of repairing door one, I had to disconnect 2 ribbon-type cables and (I think) I reconnected something improperly, since the unit wounldn't power on. I noticed that both (smaller auto-type) fuses were blown and I am in the process of replacing them.
2 questions:
1 what is the fix for stubborn cassette well doors? is it some lubrication?
2 unlike computer ribbon connectors, the ribbon connectors in this deck are not configured to assure proper polarity. What is the way to connect them properly?
Any help is appreciated
Andy

SOURCE: Sony TC WR565 dual tape deck. Both doors will not

you can not fix it without tearing it apart. if you do take it apart, try to get the front panel off. Hit the eject button and look for a lever that is stuck.

Sony TC-WR690 doors will not open to remove the cassette.

If you remove the cover after unplugging the AC, you will see that when you push the eject button that on the back side the putton is held back by a white plastic piece. Push down the white plastic piece as you press the eject button. The door will open and the tape will release. I jsut did this today on my Sony TC WR 670 dual tape player. Both sides were blocked. I noticed that both fuses on the board were also blown. New fuses didn't solve the problem. May be that the transformer is out?

Where can I have my 15 year old Sony Model TC-WR465 Stereo Tape Deck Repaired? The problem appears to be mechanical. The tapes will not advance on either side of the unit.

Depend on your location and willingness to ship the unit. The cost of the repair must also be weighed in. If you don't want to put $100 into it I don't think most shops these days will want to open it up. Dual cassette deck are notorious for failure due to cheap design. Look around at all the problems. I have been fixing units for 40 years and even at Sony and Sony authorized.
I can look at it at Skywave Tape Deck Repair in Chicago area if you want. Google it.

I have a duel cassette player sony model # TC-WR 565. The doors will not open and both casettes cannot be removed even after prying the door open.

Mine did that - you will have to patiently keep pressing the clear / stop / pause / etc and even power cycle a few (or many) times and finally you will hear the mechanism release the cassette. Once you hear that - you will be able to eject the cassette. After that go replace the belts.

Cassette Tape Deck Problem

Unit may have worn belts that are slipping. All cassette player belts are subject to deterioration even if recently installed. You may try ordering the belts yourself and have a service tech install them. The tech that installed belts 9 months ago may have used used belts. Although dishonest, it is common.
