Question about Dell Dimension 4100 (-JM0TB01) PC Desktop

1 Answer

No video A few motnhs back our Dell Dimension 8400 MCE crashed. To try to sabve the data, the dell tech. asked me if i had an older computer or another computer in our house I told him i have a dell dimension 4100. He said that is fine. So i plugged it in and turned on the computer. He then noticed this model is to old to for the dim8400 hard drive. (i only plugged in the 4-prong power by the way) I then took the hard drive from the 8400 and took it downstairs... A few minuted later i came back to my 4100 and turned it on. There was no video. I called Dell (even though it is out of warranty) and they didn't know what it was. They didn't want to replace it even though it told them a Dell tech told me to plug it in. Now i am stuck with a delldim4100 that used to be perfectly fine and now has no video. (Specs: DVD-ROM, CD-RW, 384MB RAM, XP Pro, Floppy, USB 2.0. ---- sound, video, LAN, and modem are standard.)

Dell 8400 No Boot, not even POST

It sounds like your bios were improperly flashed or went bad. The X300 SE message is your video card. So your video card works, the system mostly works, but the BIOS isn't starting up. You should contact Dell and tell them the situation.

When I try to pair my bluetooth phone with my Dell Dimension 8400 my phone asks for a PIN code. It suggests 0000 or 1234 but these don't work. Any suggestions?

Those are suggestion examples. That doesn't necessarily mean those are the specific numbers for your computer vs your phone. Try setting a specific pin code in your wireless networks, then enable your phone with that specific code. I don't know much about computers but that seems like a logical idea.

Sounds like the driver for the TV Tuner is not installed, or the video and audio drivers may not be installed properly.
Mine was always a bit wonky in XP, works like a charm in Vista or Windows 7 though

Dell 8400 runaway fan no diagnostic lights and very ocassionally it starts normally

Which fan?, the cpu fan or the cpu fan?

Most Dell pc come with a below average power supply. I recommend replacing your power supply with a better one. Do a search on Google for a good replacement power supply for you Dell 8400.

Please rate response.
