Is there a hibernate key on your keyboard? That usually brings is what is suppose to bring it back. Thats why there is still a light because its probably waiting to come back out.
Thanks,
Lee

You may want to open the computer unplug the power supply from the mother board.Hit the power button a few times then plug it back in and try. Let me know how it goes if you need any further assistance please let me know. If you have a moment to rate and accept the solution I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,

Check the power chord once(the cord which is connected at the back of the CPU to the SMPS port) .... there may be some loose contact or it might not be connected properly ..

if you still persists the same problem then there may be some short circuit inside the power supply wire just have a check with it ..

just try replacing the power chord and then try switching on ...

if you still persist the same problem then the SMPS might have got damaged due to the improper power supply or due to the variation of the voltage ...

just first check is there power getting supply to the motherboard ..
if you are not getting the power supply to the motherboard means then that s confirm that the SMPS unit is gone which is located on the top of CPU inside (it depends on the CPU cabinet)

just replace the SMPS unit and then you will surely able to work with your pc ...

if you are getting power supply to the motherboard means then there may some short circuit occurred in the motherboard the damage may be in RAM slots or the RAM slots might not getting the power supply ...or some of voltage regulator might have gone ...

just have a check with the voltage regulator in the motherboard ...

it s easy to identify the voltage regulator ...
you will be able to see some coil shaped ones those are called as voltage regulators ...

there will be many voltage regulators which are responsible for the supply of the necessary voltages for the different components in the motherboard .... just have check with them ...

if there is problem in the motherboard just like RAM slots are not getting powersupply or the voltage regulator is dead means you must contact the motherboard technician and get it replaced ...

    thank you
any doubts you can reply me
i am always here to assist you

ya it happens some times if there is a SMPS failure means ...

the SMPS failure may occur due to many reasons such as variations in the voltages than the prescribed one or due to failure of SMPS fan to run (this may occur if there is some obstacles by this the fan is couldnt able to run)(if the SMPS fan is not running then you need just have a check for the obstacles near the fan there may be wire touching to it due to that it might not be able to run or due to some dust obstacles)

  • Dileep Keshavanarayana
    Dileep Keshavanarayana Aug 19, 2008

or it may also happen if there is a capacitor damage inside the SMPS ...

there will be 2 big capacitors and 2 aluminium plates to induct & a transformer inside the SMPS which are necessary to supply the dc voltage for the pc ...
the pc only uses dc voltage to run that is supplied by the SMPS unit ...

after that the voltage regulator which are presented in the motherboard will look after the power supply for the each component in the motherboard .. the different component in the motherboard requires different voltages to work with specified speed that is maintained by the voltage regulators ...

so as the power supply comes from the SMPS if there is a damage in the SMPS it will not be able to supply the power to the motherboard

  • Dileep Keshavanarayana
    Dileep Keshavanarayana Aug 19, 2008

as there will be SMPS in all PC s there will be less damage for the motherboards ...

the minor damage to the motherboard might cause the PC not to turn on ...

just like failure of the voltage regulators ...

you can see the voltage regulators near the RAM slots those are responsible to provide the necessary voltage for the RAM slots ....

if some capacitor fails on the motherboard you may face some problems like some ports like audio etc not working

  • Dileep Keshavanarayana
    Dileep Keshavanarayana Aug 19, 2008

turn off the main power switch and then try switching on ....

  • Dileep Keshavanarayana
    Dileep Keshavanarayana Aug 19, 2008

if the system goes to hibernation then it stores the image at the time when it is getting into hibernation mode so the power will be off .. it doesnt display any led lights after it s off ..

after you press the power button it will restore the image ...

if the power button is not responding when you press then there may be some miscontact with the power button wire inside just have a check by opening the cpu or the button might have got stucked .... just have a look at that ...

if there is miscontact inside then you can make it right by removing and inserting the wires to the pins to which they were present previously for the detailed pin description you can refer to your motherboard manual it will be clearly explained with the pin numbers to which it is to be connected ...

On/of switch which controls the front panel is little bit moved from inside.try to press it little bit hard.before that check all the connections connected properly and be sure about it.if still not making it.open the front panel area and adjust the button internally doing it manualy.
it will be solved.keep me updated.

Hi, its nothing to do with the hybernate setting.

    its probably some hardware issue.

After pressing the power button, just listen for any harddisk activity. Any flashing of the LED in the front panel. Also listen the bootup beep sound. if any of this is there, let me know.

    thank you

How do I connect a new power source up to my Compact Presario SR1000

Power Source? Are you talking about a Power Supply?

If so, when you open the case just take note of where it has things connected. You will have a lot of connections that will go nowhere because they are there for future expansions. It's not hard to do, because some things will only fit in a certain place, so just take note of where things are before you remove the old power supply. A digital camera might help you.

Hi!

Please check for the cables coming into the motherboard from the power supply. Also try and check for any loose cables.

If that doesn't help then please get your power supply changed as its faulty.

Please rate this solution.

How much ram mem can i put into a compaq sr1000

It depends on which sr1000 you have, there are 5 in that serie.
How many memoslots di you have?
If you have 2, then it is max 2GB memory
If you have 4 slots, then it is max 4GB memory
The SR1000IL model supports 4GB, all the others supports 2GB

Good luck to you

Compaq Presario SR1000 desktop boot up problem

nothing to do with the ram ... this motherboard sometimes locks, ( dont ask me why) but if you take out the power cord for 5-10 minutes and then press and hold the front power button on the machine (about 10 seconds) it will reset the board. Plug in the power cord and the basic items, sound, video etc ( some usb devices tend to stop it booting to) boot into windows. Then add the rest of your usb devices ..
