It said it is setup.but when i unplug the cable wires the light on the router stays off.the only light that stays on is the lan ,the one that says for the internet, the power button.when the cable is unplug the light for the numbers are off.i am trying to go wireless on my laptop.
Guidrylillia, as per your description there is a possiblity that the router is showing signs that it is going out on you, there are ways you can avoid this from completely going defective, please check on the following:
this is pressing the reset button on the router for 25 seconds, unplug and replug the power cord while reset is still pushed, then let go of the reset button once the power is plugged back in.
Click here to get the steps needed to be done.
once you have this going you may reconfigure the router for internet and it will be operational.
if none of the steps wokred, please contact linksys tech support at 1-800-326-7114 for further troubleshooting or replacement depending on the warranty status of the device..

Tips for a great answer:
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.
