Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have an Amana Radarange AMV1154BAW that has stopped heating. Everything else seems to be working as it should, except that it doesn't produce any heat. I've seen suggestions that it could be the diode, capacitor or magnetron, but I'm not positive on where these are at or how to properly test them. Any suggestions would be great, or it you could tell me where I can find the service manual, I could probably figure things out from there. Thanks.

Everything seems to be working normal, except that it doesn't heat anything. It's always been rather obnoxious as far as noise, but I don't think it's any louder than normal. To the best of our knowledge, there were no abnormal noises when it was turned on. Thanks for your help.

It seems like everything works, sounds fine, looks fine; BUT not warming anything (at all).

When you hit Start to cook, do the inside light and turntable come on?

    Any unusual noises?

Is it louder or quieter than usual?

I have the service manual and can point you to it online.

Chances are it is a bad connection on the FA terminal of the magnetron, or a bad magnetron, or a bad high voltage diode.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

Stopped heating

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be bad or the circuitry to the magnetron may have burned out. Basically my advice is that if you have no electrical expertise, it isn't worth fixing. The magnetron if bad, costs almost as much as a new microwave. If you open it up (make sure it has been unplugged for a few hours and don't seen any obvious burnt parts, then most likely the magnetron is done and a new microwave is the way to go.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Amana Microwave stays on when I shut the door.

It'll be a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Amana radarange microwave oven 1000 watts not heating.

The two possible causes are a faulty door switch and a bad magnatron. You can pull the top cover off of the unit and check all of the door switches (there are 2-6 of them all on a common rail, me normally closed)). If the door switches all check out, replace the magnatron, diodes, and capacitor.
