If this dryer is 10 years old or more do not spend any money on it! The new ones are much more efficient! If you have to replace it buy a Speed Queen , it will do 8 loads a week for 25 years! It's the last washer and dryer I will ever buy!!!! And less expensive than a top of the line unit!
You will be fine now!

if your new power cord had three prongs then you will hook up the white wire to the machine's white wire, red to red and black to black. if you have 4 prongs you will have extra green wire this will hook up to a ground screw hope this helps
mybe the star button stay stuck and the dryer tinks some one is puching the star button and it will continio to run. try to open the door and it will stop and then clouse the door if the dryer star whitout pushing the star then you now the star switch is stuck. goo lock
get a 3 prong cord, when you change it out do one wire at a time and you can't go wrong, you should see a white wire in the middle,a red wire on one side and a black on the other, the only difference is the 4 prong has a ground wire on it and the 3 doesn't and the way it plugs into the outlet.just follow the color of the wires
My Hotpoint dryer is seven years old and did the exact same thing. When I got over the anger and the thought of spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars to replace it I started messing with it. I finally decided that since it buzzed when I tried to start it there was current there. The only other thing it could be was the drying cycle knob. I held the start knob and let it buzz while I slowly turned the dryer cycle knob to the right. As I turned through each cycle it would hit "off" and the buzzing would stop and then resume as I moved past the "off " setting. On the third trip around the dryer "started" and has been working since. Maybe something got out of kilter. Apparently the problem was in the knob that controls the drying cycles.
