Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

What are the major reasons that my fan doesn't turn on on my central air conditioning unit?

The furnace is turned on--the fan inside works, but the fan on the outside unit isn't working. What might the problem be? We changed the fuses and tripped the power but still not working.

Wire, fan motor or capacitor. If the compressor runs its prolly not the capacitor. If it doesnt, may also be the contactor.

Hello, a blower motor will not run for one of theese three reasons 1) No power to motor 2) bad capacitor 3) the motor itself is bad. One test you could do is take the wire of the L1 terminal on the control board and use a jumper wire and connect it to the wire on the high speed motor tap , if this gets the unit running then the control board must be replaced if it does not work then the motor is shot......make suremwhen disconnevting wires the power is off.

I HAVE A CARRIER CENTRAL AIR, THE OUTSIDE FAN IS BLOWING INWARD AND WON'T SHUT OFF WHEN THE FURNACE SHUTS OFF AFTER TEMP IS REACHED

Check the t-stat to make sure that the "fan" switch is st to auto. If not the fan is in the "on" position and is always on. Otherwise, It sounds like your "Central Air" is a packaged unit(Furnace and air all one unit outside the home) and the fan relay inside the unit is stuck. This need to be replaced. It is the rectangular unit with the leads from the fan motor attached to it.

Central air conditoner unit doesnt blow cool air into home has some ice on the inlet heat and cooling lines going into the central air unit

Change the furnace filter. Make sure you use a cheap one when air conditioning, as the better ones restrict airflow when they filter out so much stuff and then plug up, not allowing enough air to pass over the cooling coil in the furnace's air plenum. Turn the A/C off for a few hours (with only the furnace fan on if possible) to melt the ice off the cooling unit inside the furnace.

Air Condition will not come on. We have tried to flip the breaker but no success. The fan on the air condition inside and on the outside is not turning.

If you have one of those new digital thermostats try changing the battery. If your air conditioning is run through a central heating system the power must be on to the furnace. 24 volt control circuit gets its power from the furnace in this kind of case.
