I have a model DV1140 on my 4 year old son’s room since 2004 and I’ve seen this kind of issue before. This is mostly caused by trying to eject the DVD without pressing “stop” twice before ejecting it. But since you are already in trouble you may try this: First, let the player start to play the movie (you must let it play all the sneak previews first). Second, press “stop” twice (make sure the counter reads 0:00:00). Third, press “eject”. It should be working fine by now. If not, then you’ll probably experiencing the same issue I had today. My wife came to me complaining about the dvd player, she told me that she couldn’t get the player to eject the disc. “Women” I thought (sorry for that I didn’t mean it), but when I was trying my “magic” I heard an unusual winding noise coming out from the DVD tray. Since I couldn’t get the DVD to eject I decided to open up the player and check it for any loose or broken parts, nothing fancy anyone can do this. (If you don’t feel comfortable with this, just don’t do it and take the unit to a repair shop). Ok, now for the ones who stayed with me. Most important; first, unplug the unit from the AC outlet and disconnect it from all sources (TV, Cable, Sat, etc.). Remove a few Philips screws located at both sides and on the back panel and then remove the top lid, you should be able to see your disc by now. There should be another small black plastic “lid” on top of your DVD tray (this ensures the disc stays in place and centered), remove this lid by unscrewing another two Philips screws located on both sides of this “lid”. By now you should be able to remove your disc. After removing the disc you may try to plug the unit back to an outlet and turn it back on to look for any unusual sounds (like the one I heard) to identify any issues, (CAUTION: avoid any exposure to the laser beam). If you can’t find anything wrong yet then proceed to remove the front panel (it has a few clips all around just be careful not to break any of them). Now, check inside the DVD mechanism (a flashlight may be helpful here) when you look inside search for two small “pulleys” (mostly white)there should be a black rubber belt running around them if there is no belt around you’d just found half of the problem. If you are in luck you may find the little rubber belt (about an inch on diameter) or what is left of it inside the DVD tray. As soon as you find it you will have the other half of the problem. You see, when you press the eject button it activates a motor that spins the two “pulleys” I mentioned before with the help of the little belt you’d just found. This makes the DVD tray to move in or out of the player.
I hope this will be helpful for anyone out there with the same problem. (Remember, this work for my player (DV1140), I’m not totally sure that it’ll work for all models). As for me? Well, now I have to search for the belt p/n and were can I get two of them (one for spare). If anyone found it first you can contact me at: occ_68@yahoo.com

Lb@aol.comsony dw-q28a will not play getting a code 41. do i need just a up dated driver or a new dvd/cd? thanks any help appreciated. lisa

Hi Liglb,

    • Download and install CCleaner (free) from Piriform

    • Run the cleaner to remove old un-needed temp files

    • Select the StartUp tab and look for any programs that you know you installed but no longer use or need, and disable them. Caution, do not disable any system files unless you absolutely know what they do and that you do not need them.

    • Run the Registry cleaner, when asked if you want to backup the registry, select YES, and save to a file you will remember just in case. I have used this program hundreds of time on many different system and it has never caused a problem, but you want to be safe, backup the Registry.

    • If asked about a particular file that it wants to clean, select "yes to all"

    • Reboot

Windows should reinstall the drive when the computer boots back up.

If this does not resolve your problem, try the following.

If you take all these step and you still can not play a CD/DVD, chances are your CD/DVD componet needs to be replaced. Good Luck,

    • If this helps resolve your issue, would you please rate the solution.

Error Code DL and it won't run

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error DL indicates door lock failure and it flashes when either the door lid is not closed completely and/or the Machine/motor control detects door lid switch is open. To resolve this issue you'll have to check the door lid/switch if it's fine then replace the machine/motor control however, the issue seems to be with the door lid. Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Yes i have the problem too

Hi,

Don't worry. There is a huge problem occurring right across the board at this very moment with the PSN Network. Some consoles are not synchronising trophies properly due to an internal clock error and this is causing problems exactly like you describe. It is expected that Sony will soon have this resolved.

For a full breakdown please look at this FixYa Tip.

If the solution helps, please leave a vote for it. Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you'll need to replace the complete door lock assembly.

Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks Rylee
