There is no key combination to turn the keyboard off. Usually what happens in cases like this is the keyboard was overloaded, and the driver glitched. Uninstall the keyboard driver from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the keyboard, and reinstall the driver. This should get it working again, if not let me know, and we'll try a different approach.

Yes you can fit a conventional USB keyboard. This will checkout the laptop to make sure it is usable. If it works ok then the laptops keyboard is at fault. If it was a fizzy drink that wet it then the sugar destroys the carbon track in the keyboard rendering it useless.

Laptop keyboard is not responding & as far as I know no liquids have been spilled on it. Is there a key that my son might have used to disable it? It is a HP laptop

probably your son might lock the keyboard what you have to do is that on the keyboard you will see where they wrote Fn key beside the ctrl key hold or press the key, then on top of the functional key i.e F1 to F12 among those keys you will see where they draw or shown something like key or padlock press the key in other to open your keyboard.

In case it doesn't work try the second option.

well, what i can say is that try to loose the laptop you will see where they wrote kb at the back of the laptop then loose those screw after loosing it, then bring out the keyboard with the flex then dust it out.
if it those not work again change the keyboard.

My compaq C500 is working except for the keyboard. My son was playing with it and I don't know what he did to it. He says that he only pressed ctrl key. Do you have any possible solutions of what I could...

I have heard about this problem in other HP laptops, and disconnecting the laptop from the AC adapter, then removing the battery for a while fixes the issue. If that doesn't help you, then look under Control Panel, Accessibility Options, and make sure Sticky Keys is unchecked. Hitting the CTRL key multiple times can enable this, and then you can't type until you remove this option,

Hope these things help you out! Thanks!

My son was playing with the keyboard on my laptop and somehow turned the keys of. How do I turn them back on?

Hi,

Do you mean to say that he had turned the hotkeys ON? If so, please press the shift button five times. If you are referring that even the keyboard is nt working, please check for the internal wiring.

HP

Acer Aspire One A0A150 keyboard issue,

Sounds to be you just got a faulty keyboard from HongKong, if your old keyboard works except the the Z and the new keyboard works only with function keys, then it sounds to be that the new keyboard is not ment for your laptop. if anything you should of had the same problems as your old keyboard. try using a USB keyboard.

The "Fn" function on keyboard is on. I want it off. Help!

Look for something that says FN Lock or look for a Look symbol on the keyboard . It's usually on the SCROLL key.

Best of luck!

This is a rather old question, but the solution might still be helpful to other readers.

I suggest you call Tech Support at Dell...

Several years ago, I worked on many Dell CPx 500 models in my work place. There was an issue that always involved a series of 4 or 5 keys (they were always the same keys) that would quit working and we had attempted to purchase new keyboards to fix the issue. It turned out, the real solution was to replace the 'motherboard' of the Latitude notebook!

Dell had knowledge about the keyboard/motherboard issue that we didn't know.
