I'm trying to put a 56K ISA modem into somone's Compaq
Presario 9548. The problem is that the Setup for
this machine is unable to disable the built-in
serial port(COM 1) or built-in 28.8K modem. These
devices take IRQs 4 & 3, and there are no free IRQs
to setup the 56K modem as a COM 3 or COM 4. If I
could physically remove the 28.8K modem, I might
could get the 56K modem working on COM 2, IRQ 3.
The 28.8K modem is in a slot, but it's not a ISA
slot. There's no screw holding down the card. I
don't see what holds the modem in there, or how what
I need to take apart to get it out. Can someone who
has seen this type of built-in modem tell me how to
physically remove it? Thanks in a advance.

modem as a second modem, leaving the orginal modem fully installed. Then
when I used a modem, I would have to select which of the two installed
modems that I wanted to use. This is easily done and avoids all the
problems that occur in trying to remove the Presario modem.
