Is this an Automatic transmission? If it is, and what is happening is that when you turn the key the starter will not engage, then you play with the shifter nob, and then it will start, then it is the
NUETRAL SAFETY SWITCH.

This is there to ensure that you cannot start the car in a gear, and will only start in either Park, or Nuetral. They go bad, just like anything else. Try starting the car with the gear-shifter in the NUETRAL position. I bet it will start.

Where the switch is located on this car, I am not sure, but it is not an expensive fix.

2002 dodge durango wont shift out of park

Put your foot on the brakes and have someone see if you have brake lights. This has a shift interlock that uses the brake lights to complete the circuit that unlocks the shifter from park. You can bypass this saftey feature by applying brake, engine off key off and moving shifter to neutral then starting the engine Dont forget to fix your brake lights !!

Could be a bind in the shifter linkage or a bent park pin. If it is a bent park pin the transmission will have to be taken apart to fix.

My 2000 durango won't shift into drive.

If you mean you can't move the shifter lever at all? Then you have a problem with the interlock. Here is a write up on the problem:

2001 Dodge Durango will start from a jump.

replace the battery, on a dodge when battery is weak the idle air control solenoid tries to search for the right position. and will keep stalling sometimes wont stay running.

Won't go into any other gear, stays in park

This may sound stupid but did you put your foot on the brake when you try and shift--try that
