Question about Computers & Internet
I seem to be finding this exact same problem on several different topics. I also have an Averatec 2300 ultra-portable laptop.
It seems the problem lies in the mother board not getting enough power at power up. This can be seen by the flash of the HD indicator, as well as the temporary flash of Orange occuring with a fully charged battery in the machine at power up.
The easiest temporary fix for this issue is to actually insert a CD into the Drive, as in most other cases, that is one of the only devices that does receive power.
The second and probably most futile step is to Contact the Trigem company responsible for manufacturing these faulty laptops. (As this problem occurs in A LOT of these 2300 Series.

Are you just running it from the battery? It sounds like you may have a motherboard problem. I would first put in my OS boot cd and see if it boots from the CD. Let me know if you don't know how to boot from CD. If it does boot from cd then run a chkdsk /r on your hard drive.
If that doesn't fix it I would see if the power supply is not working again are you running from the battery without power supply?
