Nextar S3 I have a Nextar S3 GPS system and when I switch the power button to on all I get is a red light.

    It doesnt have a power button...It has a switch that goes from "on" to "off" and a Menu Button. It is a touchscreen device

If you have already tried to upgrade the software of the Nextar or have attempted to do it yet are unable to because the computer no longer recognizes the device it is best if you contact Nextar and have the device replaced already as if the computer does not detect the device or indicates that it has malfunctioned there is no other way of reviving the unit in question.

Hi,

In the hope that it is not a hardware fault, pls try:

  • charge the unit overnight;
  • verify that power is available at the charger/adapter plug;
  • turn on the device without the SD card;
  • connect the GPS unit through USB to a PC with the charger/adapter likewise plug in;
  • try the PC connection again without the SD card.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

I got it its the internally error in the switch.the switch is proper but the circuit which is supporting this switch is not working.you just have to replace the black colour capacitor which is located on the circuit and exceoting the commands of the switch.you can replace it through soldering iron.thanks.

Plug it to the computer by using the usb 2.0 cable

and give it a upgrade firmware of its software.
some might say that its a power issue but the power is already
give the red light.

    check your adaptor. is it correctily giving 5VDC or less. check adapter itself or try with another one..

    also check the physical health of li-ion built-in battery..

    switch it off and then connect it to the pc and then switch on it..

    then see if computer says malfunctioning..

    i think in this condition it should say like this.

    u then install the driver . .if you dont have then download it from its site..

Try this one first:

Press the "Reset" button or push the stylus into the "Reset" hole, to see if the navigation software can load successfully.

    There's a possibility that its a hardware problem, i may suggest you to take it to a repair center near you or call the manufacturer for repair or replacement if its still under warranty,,,,

Please unplug the power cord and wait for 30 min and then switched on ..if this does not then you need to give to service if within warranty give to the company or if its out warranty give it local GPS service center...

    the navigation software can load successfully. If the program still
    does not load, then the software may be corrupted. Also, if the
    internal memory fails to read or write and the software cannot load
    properly, it may be caused by hardware failure.You need to give for a service...

    Dear sir/madam,

    It is due to power problem. If the adapter doesn’t connect well, please connect the adapter
    correctly. If the built-in rechargeable battery is weak, please use the
    adapter to supply power or change the battery.

    However,
    if you suspect something is wrong with the unit, immediately turn the
    power off and disconnect the power connector from the unit. Never try
    to repair the unit yourself because it is dangerous to do so.

    Sir,

    I think the battery may be dead. If the unit has not been used for a long period, the battery may run
    out of power completely. When the battery is weak or totally dead,
    there may not be enough power to turn the unit on immediately. Keep
    charging the unit a while longer, then try to turn it on again later.

    Or else

    It may be caused by hardware failure. In either case, please return the
    unit for exchange or repair to the retail location from which you
    purchased it, or contact us for further assistance.

Nextar s3 gps need maps


The Nextar S3 does not need or come with a map update. That's what it's best feature. It works with the Satellite everytime you turn it on. I've had one since 2008. It is very dependable and reliable. However, I dropped mine last summer and it hasn't worked right since. Now, when I plug it in it says, "the battery is low."
I am not aware if it operate by battery. Now that they are gone out of business it is difficult, if not impossible to get it clear information on the S3. So, I just gave up, and recently purchased a Magellan GPS.

I miss it already. I loved the fact that I did not hve to download anything, unless it was music or something that I wanted to download. With the Megallan, and most computers today. You have to charge them, and download updates...tsk tsk...tsk...such a waste of time. I rather plug it into my lighter and go....

How do you charge the battery? Does it require a battery charger?


Yes, you need the power cord that will go from a 12 volt socket in the car to the GPS receiver.
Best Buy, Radio Shack or possibly Walmart should have one.

Why does my gps nextar show a red light and not turn on screen is black tryed pushing reset button but nothing happens


Try reflashing the firmware for your device you can find the latest firmware and flashing utilities from the manufacturer?s website. Make sure that you back your music up first because when you do this you are setting it back to factory settings.

There are no further updates for this unit it has been discontinued. As you already have found out. Buy a better known brand of GPS they are likely to stay on the market longer. May I suggest looking at Altina 8010 They are in australia pretty cheap at moment due to the US $ exchange rate. Freight is also reasonable

Nextar S3 Application error in Navigate


You need the contents of the \ResidentFlash directory. You'll need to rename the MobileNavigator folder and the four gpspara files (0,1,2 and 3) then load the new folder and files from a device that is working. You will then copy your old \ResidentFlash\MobileNavigator\UserData folder from your backup to the new folder to regain any favorites you might have created. You should then be good to go. I use ActiveSync to talk to the S3. I'm not sure how else you might attach to it.

I have the ResidentFlash files but I have no place to post them. The files zip to about 5.3 MB.
