I took photos of my Irish vacation on an 8 gig PNY SD chip, on a Canon SD1100 IS digital ELPH, IXUS 80IS camera. I could initially review all photos and some video on the camera while on my trip. When I returned home, the photos could not be found using a thumb drive converter for my computer or by the local Canon photo dealers recovery equipment. Note: I also used a PNY 4 gig chip in the same camera, and that device recorded photos, and those photos could be downloaded to my dell laptop computer. Question is? Is there anyway to recover those once in a lifetime photos?

I have had success with this camera recovery software named asoftech photo recovery... Download the program
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

Your photos got corrupted somehow. All your photos are saved on thememory card of your camera automatically. So you can recover photos frommemory card with photorecovery software.Recommend this one (simply because i was using itand it worked)-Tenorshare Data Recovery is a professional data recoverysoftware that can recover lost, corrupted, deleted or formatted pictures frommemory card of digital camera. But you had better have stopped using the memory card of yourcamera. Because, once your photos were overwritten by new ones, they are gonefor good. Use recovery tool. But I suggest you to try 4Card Recovery so that you won't pay anything. Don't worry. Of course, it is an efficient recovery tool. The method to recover lost files is very simple, just four steps as the following lists.
Step one, download 4Card Recovery online and install it on your computer.
Step two, run it and choose the files that you want to recover, of course, you can choose recover all files in case of the omission of anything.
Step three, scan it by clicking the 'next' button and wait for about ten minutes.
Step four, save the recovered files on other part to avoid losing it again.
You can all the lost files back after finishing the four steps, so easy.

Just got home from taking a lot of pictures on vacation but now I can only retrieve 5! Could I have accidently erased the rest? What can I try? I know they were on there.

If you are using a memory card, take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that are available to help you recover your photos. This blog article reviews and outlines several of the better ones.

My canon ixus80is

The Digital ixus 80is is fully SDHC compliant so should work with all SDHC capacities. There are no reports yet of incompatibility with the larger capacity cards as long as they have been supplied from trusted sources.

Every SDHC compliant camera which I've recently dealt with has only had problems when fitted with cards from suspiciously cheap suppliers. If an SDHC card is too cheap then it's almost invariably counterfeit and what's inside the card does not match the label outside, often they're plain low capacity SD cards.

As long as you stick to major brands from trusted sources you should be OK but bear in mind that the 16GB SDHC variants slow the camera functions down significantly compared to using an 8GB model.

I hope that you've found my answer to be of use and ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

Canon PowerShot SD 630 Digital Elph "Memory Card Error"

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.

Regards.

I have words "Card Locked" on screen of Canon Ixus 65. Unable to take photos. Had camera over 2.5 years and never encountered this before. Any ideas?

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Keep getting cannot detect camera on my ixus 80is

This question comes up several times a day here in the camera section at Fixya. But please note, it's very hard to troubleshoot individual software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? Please don't take this as a sales pitch as it's not, but please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of an inexpensive card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:
