Question about Dell 1600n All-In-One Laser Printer

Dell 1600n - nothing happening when I push Scan Button

Have been using this feature with no problem for over a year. All of a sudden, today, nothing at all happens when I try to scan. The screen display stays the same. It copies fine. I have turned it off...unplugged it...nothing.

    Same thing. Been using fine for over 2 years. Today, push button, just sits at the "Ready" screen.

    I've been using mine for 4+ years and I had the same thing happen. It prints/copies/faxes fine but no scanning. Network card is still working too.

    I've reset the firmware (twice), powered off the system and done everything else I can think of. Not sure what to do about it.

I had the same problem as both posters.

I downloaded the most recent firmware from dell (3.11T, A03) and reinstalled it. When you run the program, there's a radio button that says "printer" and one that says "network". I did the one that said "printer" and nothing happened. Then I ran the firmware update again and picked the one that said "network" and it started working shortly afterward.

I'm assuming that some component of firmware in the network card was messed up. I could still use the network printing but the "scan" button wasn't working. This fixed it for me. Your Mileage May Vary.

Hmmm.well..does this scan feature work from the desktop?

and also, is the printer plugged directly into the wall outlet?

All functions work on my 1600n printer with the exception of the scanner. The workstation names that normally appear when a doc is scanned do not appear


The Dell 1600n requires that the Dell Network Scan Manager is running. Windows Vista and Windows 7 require user level authorization for this app to run properly and may be prompting you at start up. If you are telling it "no" when propmted then this is one thing that can be hanging you up. It is also possible the app is simply not running at all. Go to start>programs>Dell>Network Scan and see if it picks it up then. This app is how the dell printer itself gets the names to put in the list of available workstations to scan to.

sounds like your csanner is locked.up under where paper comes out look for a blue lever and pull towards you to unlock scanner.push in to lock scanner.check with printer off.

Fax waiting message on dell 1600n. will not print why?


This usually isn't a driver problem. Mine won't print-out a fax when toner is low - at what point is low, I don't know. To solve, go to Menu button and press until 4. Fax Feature is displayed. Press Left - Right button until 'Ignore Toner' is displayed and press Select button. Press Left - Right button until 'Ignore Toner - On' is displayed and press Select button. The unit will then print 'Fax Waiting' pages.

Mac user can't scan on Dell MFP 1600n


That's because you can't scan over wireless. In order to scan, you need to be connected via USB, so I hope you've got a MacBook...

Check the power and the data (USB) cables in the printer...check both ends...
Check :-
# The printer powers on properly
# There also can be problems with the printer driver
# and also internal printers....
Try reinstalling the printer driver...

Clean the small glass, even the slightest dot, it will interpet as a line.

Scanning Issues


There is a button right above the "Start Scan" button that says "Select Software". Use the arrow buttons (located over the Cancel button) to change how the documents are scanned.
