MSI 745 Ultra onboard power led

Hey, you gave a great answer on wiring up this Mobo. I have one I think might be blown. Is there an LED on this board that lights up when power is applied? (Not the front panel power - just when the power supply is plugged in.) The front panel LED does not light up, and the monitor says no video signal. The DVD/CD lights do go on and off. Both hard drives work in other machines.

It's awfully dark in there.....

Thanks for the response. First hint, I have no video signal at the monitor. (Possibly blown ATI Rage 128 card?). But I also have no power light on the front of the machine, or any activity on the hard drive light. I have tested both hard drives in another machine, and they are both, thankfully, fine. DVD drives are still searching, and I get 12 volts on the hard drive power lines, so I'm guessing the power supply is OK. Can't test the motherboard power leads 'cos I can't turn on the power supply with it un-attached - I don't think I can anyway.

    Thanks again,

    Michael

As far as I can tell, from the motherboard manual, there is no power on LED display on the motherboard itself.

Why do you think the motherboard may be blown? Maybe we can fix this problem...?

1st, unplug all connections and re-plug them in, also make sure your ram is seated properly and in the 1st Slot (2nd and 3rd if you have more ram). Also make sure that the CMOS jumper is not set to the reset position (CMOS jumper #JBAT1 should be set to pins 1+2, not pins 2+3). Looks like this:

This is jumper is located on the bottom right of the motherboard.

How to connect power switch on msi ms6787

At the bottom right hand corner of the mobo you'll find there is a set of pins marked JFP 1 and the power switch pins are marked clearly so are the HDD Led, reset, Power Led etc. Plug in your wires which are also marked, corresponding to the marked pins.

Hooking my Neo4 mobo back up.

Hi weeman105, case wire colors do vary from case to case. The most common case wire colors for negative are "white & black". All other colors like blue, green, red orange are most commonly "positive". The four pin connector with only the ends with wires is the internal speaker. Most boards use one set of pins where you hook everything up. The MSI K8N Neo4-F uses two separate motherboard pins, Front Panel Connectors: JFP1 & JFP2 as shown on the top page 2-19. Now that you know what color is positive & which is negative things should work out just fine.
Downloaded manual from MSI link: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloadfile&dno=4117&type=manual
If you run into any other troubles, just post & we'll go from there.

Good luck weeman105!

Motherboard power connections

From my extensive experience trial and error can sometimes be the best solution here, never had any shorts with this solutution. plug the power supply onto the mboard then with a screw driver touch together two pins at a time on themboard following a the pins on the panel horizontally, when you touch together the right two pins your mboard will power-up then insert the on-off plug on those two pins 99.9% of the time they are plugged facing inwards (the writing on the plug faces towards the major part of the mboard) after that you can insert the led plugs by the same consept of trial and error. You must plug your harddriver to your board to find the hdd led because then it will flicker when found the power led will remain on constantly. with the resert button the 99.9% of the time the pins are directly below, above or adjacent to the power-on pins. when it comes to the usb pins check- . . . . .
. . . .
they are in this order above if the spare pin is on the right. starting from left to right, starting with the top row insert - red - white - green - black. the same works for the bottom row.
