Check the cable between the computer and the receiver. Also check to see if you are on the correct input on the receiver. On the back of the computer you might be connected to the line in jack I have done it before myself.

No surround sound

Review the speaker set up instructions to determine whether the correct sizes have been selected. In some speaker configurations, signals are mixed or redirected to compensate for size limitations and other factors.

Denon avc-3020 amplifier, both rear speakers play the same sound, sounds from the left also play through the right rear speaker and vice versa

You really need to read the manual and maybe physically rearrange your speakers for that left / right swap thing. Back Surrounds (if that's what you meant) frequently are the same unless the origianl program material has 7.1 sound.

How did the Test Tones fare?

I'm having trouble with sound when i try and install a surround sound system. This is the second system I've had that my lg would not play sound

Firstly you must have the remote typically to set the speakers up or there is a combination of keys to do this but usually some functions cannot be changed without the remote.
Second, the surround sound playback can only be played if the sound that you are listening to has the surround sound track, otherwise you may not hear hardly anything when your device is set to the wrong function.

The speakers must also match the surround sound system otherwise you may not hear anything at all.
Remember: A 5.1 System is 5-speakers,   A 7.1 system is 7 speakers!

The speakers should be marked for which place they belong LF= Left,Front...etc.

Only Direct sound works good, and only two speakers

Some sound fields have reverberant effects that need adjusting so the levels become audible, such as in "stadium" mode. While playing one of these sound fields, navigate through the speaker setup menu and make adjustments to the "effects" percentage, and levels. Be aware however, that only in 4 channel stereo mode will your surround speakers produce sound 100% of the time. Also, in any form of Dolby Pro Logic mode you will hear more sound from the surround speakers originating from stereo source material than from monoaural material...example, a television station broadcast in stereo versus mono.

Sound problem

Make sure all speakers that are hooked up sound ok. If any of them sound lower then the others or sound distorted you may have a speaker with a partially shorted voice coil. If speaker or speakers pop when power is first applied you may have a grounded speaker that should not be grounded. Each speaker wire rides on 6vdc and if any speaker sees a ground you will have 6v across voice coil which would explain any popping noise when first turned on and radio may play for awhile then overheat. be sure speakers are 4 ohm min per ch otherwise amp will run to hot. Sound not coming from left side surround sound speaker or my right side front speaker

it is highly likely that you're TV is outputting mono sound, hence the left channel only. check your physical connections to the TV and the balance / channel volume on the television as well.

Both left and right speakers play audio for right speaker

I think you mean the left channel is out but when you use test tone, the sound comes from left and right channels through the right channel speaker. If this is case, the switching IC is malfuncting. Unit needs service
