When my 20v5 monitors were starting to go like yours after a year. I had to play with the monitor's on off switch or reboot also for it to come up but in the end i needed to change the electroliytics caps inside, Mine did show yellow/green lights though so your problem may be a cap that didnt fail on sillybits or mine but a different one in the group that makes the failure mode different. see my post. "I had two westinghouse 20v5 monitors do this also just over a yr"

Probably 1280 x 1024 at 32bit color depth assuming those are the settings you are asking about. If not, please be more specific with a follow up post.

SOURCE: Westinghouse LCM-19V7 powers on, but picture only stays for a sec

It's probably bad capacitors on the power supply board. These monitors are notorious for having the electrolytic capacitors blow out; cheap components! I would suggest replacing the two 1000 mfd capacitors and the three 220 mfd capacitors with 35 volt components from Radio Shack. That fixed one of my LCM-19V7s but not a second one which seems to have some other power supply problem.

SOURCE: MY SCREEN ON MY LCM-17v8 MONITOR TURNS COMPLETELY

Found it! Follow this guide:

http://www.midnightmods.com/2008/11/westinghouse-lcm-17v8-repair_07.html

Essentially, you're going to take apart your monitor (you'll have to pop off the covers where the stand mounts onto the screen in order to do so), then you'll find bulging/popped capacitors on the motherboard inside.

You'll remove those capacitors, then replace them with the appropriate ones linked from that guide. They're incredibly cheap, so I went ahead and bought all of them. We'll see if it actually works for me, but it's supposed to, at least...

SOURCE: monitor will appear to come on a

could be a number of possibilities, lcd backlight is going bad, bad capacitors on the power board, lcd cable needs to be reseated, power board needs to be replaced. Best possibility would be to take it to a repair shop and see what the costs would run to fix it.

If its more then the cost of a new monitor then get a new monitor cause you would get the warranty.

Hello,

The intermittent image, dark picture or no power are all indications of a failing power supply. If you can solder you should be able to repair your monitor. We have an article posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-the-westinghouse-lcm-20v5/ The post is about repairing the Westinghouse LCM-20V5 but they both use the same power supply board, the Delta DAC-12M033 so the information is the same. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for this model for $32 plus return shipping. More information on this service can be found here. http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/service-request-form/

I hope this information helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hello,

You have a monitor with a failing power supply. The Viewsonic VG2021M monitor uses the DAC-12M033 power supply board. After several years of use the capacitors in the power supply start failing and not keeping a charge. The capacitors are on the output side of the power supply and help filter and stabilize the voltages. When they fail the power does not settle when you turn it on so you have to do the on/off/on/off to get it to start. If you can solder then you should be able to repair your monitor. Check out the article on our site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/repairing-the-westinghouse-lcm-20v5/ it is for the Westinghouse LCM-20V5 but they both use the same board so the repair information is the same. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for this unit, it runs $32 plus shipping. You can get more information on this service here:

Check the capacitors in the power supply, see pictures here for a guide so you know what to look for.

I believe the 19v5 uses the same chassis as the 20v5.
Post back what you find so we can guide you further.

Screen goes black after fraction of a second

More likely to be bad capacitors in the power supply, see LCM-20V5 (almost the same chassis as used in LCM-19V5) example: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Post back what you see insdie so we can guide you further.

LCM-17v8 Monitor Blacks out after a few minutes. Unplug power source and you have display again, for how long is anyones guess. Any suggestions

Does this happen ONLY when connected to YOUR computer,
or does this happen when conected to some other notebook/desktop?

If the former, your computer is entering "power-save" mode,
after a few minutes of inactivity. Just "wake-up" your computer,
and it will wake-up the LCD monitor.

If it is the latter, then you have a "hardware" problem with your LCD monitor. Take it to a qualified technician for trouble-shooting.
