Question about Hampton Bay 04379 Madison Avenue Ceiling Fan

1 Answer

Fan cuts off for no reason

I installed a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with remote control about 10 months ago in the master bedroom. We keep the fan on high every nite, and the fan cuts off unexpectedly 1-2 times a nite. Lately it has been happening even more frequently. It turns back on OK, but it's very annoying. What could be the reason for this? Thanks!

Take it back to Home Depot with your receipt & don't buy a store brand fan.Don't buy the Hunter fans in there either as they are only made for them...

My home is pre wired for a ceiling fan in the master bedroom. There are two light switches that control the pre installed wires. One for the light on the fan and one for the fan. There are four wires

The usual wiruing for these fan/light circuits is that the black wire on one switch is for the fan and the red on the other switch is for the light. If you are using a remote set up for both fan and light, then hook the remote wires to the black and white wires in the ceiling, You can cap off the red wire in the ceiling as this will not be used.

Need remotes

In theory, they should. Try Hampton Bay first, and if not, check for aftermarket replacements. Those remotes are simple enough that there is no reason that they can't.

Bulbs burning out in Hampton Bay ceiling fan

I would suggest getting an electrician to check the current running through the wiring. I had installed a similar fan in my grandmother's house a couple of years ago and had the same problem. After a couple of months of constantly changing bulbs, I brought in an electrician to check the current and found that there was a short in the wire which kept causing just enough of a current surge to blow the bulbs.

Hampton Bay Remote

You must use the switch on the fan itself.

Remote control

in the remote and the fan the little blue box is called a dip switch
you will have to open fans base to access the remote power sender
on both the fan and remote the dip switches have to match in order for the remote to work the fan properly
or your signal will never make it to remote box

Try this:

* All 3 white together, with white from fan
* All grounds (earths) together, with all greens from fan
