Question about RCA L42WD22 42 in. LCD Television

2 Answers

Unusable Signal I've had this RCA L42WD22YX5, 42in LCD TV for 14 months. About a week ago, while viewing a program, it just went dark, with 'unusable signal' message jumping on the screen. This was the RF input that I was using. I tried the composite video input and still the same problem. Then I tried the component video input and that one worked. But I really need to get the RF input working since I have it connected to my dish receiver. I also tried the VGA input by connecting it to my computer. It worked for a couple of days and now I am getting the same 'unusable signal' message showing on the screen too. Are these all related to one faulty board? If yes, please let me know which board needs to be replaced. Thanks, Mike S.

Check the fuse on your main board I think it might be bad

  • Johnny Washington Jan 21, 2013

The fuse is very small so you have to look for it really good to find it ok.

Hello Mike:

The issue that you are having is with your small signal board and it needs to be replaced, it sounds like the microprocessor on that board is getting locked up.

My rca tv has unusable signal onit

Hi, Check the cable connections to and from the TV.
Change the channels to see if there are others that are out.
If you are not using any cable company then you will still need a set top box to unscramble the digital signal. Good luck.

RCA L46WD22 LCD tv (3 year-old unit)...No picture, tried unplugging for a few hours to ''re-set'' the computer...nothing, tried to view a DVD, nothing, just a black screen with the ''unusable signal''...

The back lights inverter is working because you can see the "Unusable Signal' on the screen, if the inverter is dead, yoo will see nothing on the screen at all.
If the T-CON (LCD controller) is dead, you will see just gray glowing screen with no pictures or text.
You may have problem with video processor in the main logic board (tuner, audio, source selector).
Parts for your TV:
http://www.shopjimmy.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=RCA+L46WD22+&stock=all&limit=100

This is going to be difficult repair since you do have a way to try out the replacement board to be sure that is the problem. RCA service person has that advantage of parts in stock to try out.
I estimate the board from Jimmy to be about $150, from RCA will be twice as much, plus labor.

I have an rca L42WD22YX5 that just went to a blank screen yesterday. The screen keeps reading unusable signal. It is only 14 months old.

i had this happen last year, now my tv is messed up again. when we had the problem with the unusable signal, the tv repair shop told us it was the main motherboard that caused it. ended up paying $250.00 to have it fixed. Now, our tv is broke again, this morning turned it on, got the green light, then just started flashing red, hasnt worked any at all today, reset it and everything. My suggestion, if you can afford to buy a new tv, do it, because I called the repair shop again this morning about the new problem, they said after the 1 year warrentt from rca runs out all they do is tear up. My tv isnt even 4 years old, bought it at the end of 2007, now its tore up twice, going to purchase a samsung in the morning from brandsmart. Good Luck!

I am having a problem with an RCA tv..unusable signal.

make sure that you have it set to the right input signal source and that your source is working properly. if so then yeah, you need to replace the fuzle modulator.

Rca 46 inch lcd tv, no sound

Go into the menu and change the HDMI Audio settings - the manual will give you a breakdown on this. HDMI is a little glitchy - if you were using red/gree/blue cables before switching to HDMI, you might want to consider going back to them - just an opinion.

Hi. What you need to do is plug in a cable or Antena in its place, and reprogram the channels. if you did that, then try to use a VCR or DVD player and install it using the RCA cables. Install the cable to the DVD or the VCR. If nothing works, My TV has a crack in the LCD. I'll either sell it to you, or buy yours. Let me know. Thanks.... email me to hajum30@yahoo.com
Thank You...
