The F5 and F8 keys have been used in the past to bring up a short text menu that allows you to choose between a C:\ prompt, Safe Mode and possibly other choices depending on the version of Win.

Early in the boot, tap each of these keys; if one doesn't work, the other might.
Try one per boot, not both during the same boot sequence.

Getting late started and many virus

If your system will not boot up correctly and you suspect a virus is the problem, a recommended solution is to start your computer in safe mode and run a virus scan. By running your computer in safe mode, non-essential processes do not start and non-core components are disabled. In other words, only the minimum necessary programs will load. Tough to remove viruses, spyware and other malware usually have no chance to run and disrupt your system and can more easily be removed.
To run a virus scan in safe mode, you must have active anti virus software installed on your computer.
To run a virus scan in safe mode, follow these steps:
1.If your computer is on, shut it down
2.Power on your computer
3.Immediately after you power on your computer, repeatedly press the [F8] key (about once per second)
4.In the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen, use the arrows to select Safe Mode and presss [Enter]
5.Select your current operating system and press [Enter]
6.Select the user you would like to login under (if applicable)
7.When your system finishes booting, click the Start button on your task bar
8.Move your cursor over All Programs and navigate to your anti virus program
9.Click on your antiv virus program to run it and follow the anti virus program's normal steps to run a virus scan
10.After the virus scan is complete, Delete all detected viruses
11.Close out of your anti virus software
12.Restart your computer (it should start in normal mode)

Your Feedback is greatly appreacited.Thank you for using FIXYA.

Dear sir. i have aproblem with my computer. it is a hp pavilion desk top. my problem is that is not boot in the normal mode. when i turn it on the first page and the only page to open is the window...

No, it's not the boot.ini, without it you wouldn't get the boot options screen.
What you have is corruption - a critical file from Windows has been damaged or destroyed by a virus. Since you are no longer able to boot your only option left is to perform a full reinstall - get your recovery cd or an Windows install disk and follow the procedure.

Starts up fine, gets to win xp loading screen and then goes black, i cannot get into windows, plz help

For that when you power up the computer press F8 key then if you are able to see safe mode and other menu then enter in enable vga mode.
Then go to start menu then control panel ->dispaly ->settings.
Also make sure that graphic driver installed and working fine.
change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok.
then check in normally.
But if you are not able to see even safe mode then you need recovery disk or windows disk.
Boot computer with that disk.
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios .
Then go to boot menu then set first boot device as cd/dvd rom .then save and exit.
Thern it boot with disk.
Then follow the procedure and repair your previous windows.
Let me kno wif you need further assistance.

My computer keeps going off during system boot. I think its due to virus attach. How do I solve this problem?

Hi,
If you think it is a virus, boot into safe mode (F8 in windows). Choose safe mode with network support so you can access internet if you need to. Then run your anti-virus program. I suggest malwarebytes..it's excellent

If you can't boot into safe mode and your 'puter still shuts down, well, it's something else.

You will have to run a full Virus Scan in safe mode with an Anti Virus program with up to date Virus Definitions.
Tap the F8 key on boot to get to the boot option screen that will allow you to select "Safe Mode", then select your operating system, then click yes on the pop up. Once in safe mode locate your Anti Virus program in your program folder and run the full/complete scan and that should fix you up.

This is a nasty type virus
Download " Malwarebytes " install and update it then run computer in safe mode and run program it should clean out the virus etc. then reboot
(it sometimes when cleaning system and removing virus affect other files that the virus has latched onto so have driver disk standing by)

Computer keeps crashing. MB or HD? Soltek SL86MIP L

Manufacturers website is the best place for drivers. You could also have other compatability or hardware issues. Try the drivers first. If the computer is stable in safe mode, then I would say driver issues. If it is unstable in safe mode, then it is possibly something else.
