Locate the re-set button on the router, if memory serves, its on the back and may need a pin to fully depress it. This wipes out any passwords stored on the router and web interface

How can i change my username and password?

As you have not mentioned the make/ model of your router, I would describe the router security settings in general.
First you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer) by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is 192.168.0.1 OR 192.168.1.1 (Default router settings are written under the router)
(unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password "leave it blank" OR Type "admin") and lookup for the options to do the following: -

1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Setup" 2.Under "Wireless Security Mode", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK)
3.Choose/change the Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length
4. Click Save Settings.
Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.

Also, for additional security, you may try the followng steps: -
1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router
2. Change the default administrative user name and password
(The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)

In the screen shot below I have highlighted the above mentioned options for DLink Dir300 Router, which would help you.
creativetech_20.jpg
Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.
Hope it helps! Good Luck!

SSID :It is the name of the wireless network. This name will be shown on yourwireless computer or the wireless device so that you can identify yourown wireless network. All the routers come with their factory defaultsettings. For example , the Linksys router will come with the Linksysnetwork name.
It will be better to change the wireless network name.

How do I reset my network key/wep key? I recently

Hi,

I believe you have formatted only your PC but your WEP/WPA settings remain the same or you can set it so.

First step is to check if you have wireless network up and running.
Click on the link below to download and install the Network Detector.
Download Link

If this tool does not detect your network ( not your neighbours ) then most likely you need to re-setup the entire network ( router ) settings. This is done once you call the ISP ( Internet Service Provider )

If the above tool detects your network, you can open the router configuration page and reset the WEP Key

Hi. I have old but stiil good MSI RG54GS2 router. I've bought a new TV Philips with possibility to access to internet and home network. Using LAN cable there's no problem to connect but when I try to...

hi , Check whether your computer has N wireless or G wireless (could be G+N) is yes then also check whether is set to G mode - check the router is also set to G (N will be good if your router support ), check the channel on router (1,6 or 11) .
Main to check - everything will work only if and if you are able to see the wireless signals on your TV . If you are able to see the w/l network then try to connect with right password (network key if w/l is secure). if you are able to see the network key and not able to connect the above can help . More info like error message will help in sorting out the issue .

I'm trying to turn the wireless function on my D-Link DGL-4500 Wireless Router. I go to Basic > Wireless then check the turn on wireless radio button (put in the setting and all that) then hit Save...

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network:

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer
c. Possible wireless interferences

Connecting to the Wireless Network

For Windows XP Service Pack 1:

1. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Networks.
5. Please select your network and click on Connect. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. Please type in the Network Key and then confirm it.
6. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

For Windows XP Service Pack 2:

1. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
3. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
5. Select your network and click on Connect.
6. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

For Windows Vista:

1. Click Start then select Connect To.
2. Connect to a network window will show up.
3. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
4. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

Note: You may use the wireless utility of your wireless adapter in connecting to the wireless network but you need to clear "Use Windows to configure my wireless networks" on the Wireless Networks tab.

We hope that the above steps provided would help resolve the problem. If the steps above did not work, we will need to get some additional details from you to be able to assist you further. I have summarized my questions below:

1. Can your computer go online when it is hardwired to the router?
2. What wireless adapter are you using?
3. What is the operating system of your computer?

Problem connecting wirelessly using netgear router MR814v2

Hi, you should consider changing your security to WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK encryption instead of WEP as WEP can be cracked in a matter of minutes, even 128bit keys can be cracked easily. Plus there's no confusion over the four WEP keys generated.

With WPA you choose the key so it can be a word instead of random key, making it easier to remember. Just make sure its not a simple word that can be guessed, and use random numbers or characters so something like 64ranDomWordz92. Its case sensitive too so chucking in capitals makes it even harder to guess. Don't forget to write it down in case you forget it, make sure you write it correctly.

Now you know which key your using, go to manage wireless networks on your laptop and delete any profile you have for your network. Now when you try to connect, it will ask for your WPA / WPA2 passkey, just type it in and hit enter, you should now be connected.

Let me know if you need help with any of the above.

Network key

Lkrawlings:
Can you go into your router from IE? like http://192.168.x.x, then from this configuration page of your router you can find what key you had put into your router. Make sure the type of security you are using like WEP, WPA, PSK, WPA2 etc. This key should match on your desktop or laptop machine to gain connection to your router.

If you are unable to find your key like this then:

You could refresh your router to factory defaults by pressing for 5 seconds, you will find this hole at the back of your router. try going again into your router like I said above and make up any other key.
Hope that helped!
