Brushes not rotating on kirby vacuum

Change the belt, they stretch after while. If it made a burnt rubber smell or it's > 1 year old this is probably your problem.

Here's what you need:

A smell like burning rubber comes out of the vents whenever it is used. It starts as soon as the vacuum is turned on. I've emptied the filter, but maybe I need a new one? I don't think the suction...

Hi sevillekathe...
The problem is that you have is that hair, strings, etc has gotten wrapped around the beater bar of the vacuum and it is trying to slow down the motor but the motor will not slow down so the smell you smell is the belt burning up because it is slippling and creating smoke and smell
You will need to remove the beater bar from the bottom of the machine and clean the hair, strings, etc from around the bearings on each end of the beater bar.
Also check your filter bag, check the hose going to the vacuum if you have one for blockages, and once you have the beater bar off check your belt condition and look for blockages going to the bag.

We replaced the belt after about 5 uses, and now every once in a while it smells like burning rubber, I checked to belt to make sure it was ok, and then last week it started smoking. Is there reported...

If the belt is hot or burning during use, it could be due to a beater brush, which the belt drives, being bound up in some manner. The beater brush is removed during belt changes and should be cleaned of all debris as best you can. At each end of the beater brush there is a plastic clip of sorts that holds it in the vacuum. Spray some WD40 between the bar and the plastic clips then rotate the clips to be sure they move freely. Reassemble with a new belt and put it to use.
If you find this solution to be of help to you I would appreciate a Thumbs UP rating. Paul

Smells like burning rubber when I turn on my G6 Kirby vacuum.

You must take of the plastic ends from the wood beater bar and make sure the metal axels are not wound up with hair. I did this monthly with 4daughters

Self Propel wheels not enough power to move machine over carpet.

Sounds like the transmission might need an overhaul. Take it to a local vacuum repair shop and have them look at the transmission.

Beater bar on Dyson upright won't turn when handle is lowered

I have finally fixed my sister's dyson dc 15 beater bar problem. It was just 2 tiny broken wires connect to circuit board lead to the beater bar. The wires broke where they go through the black rubber gommet. You need a torx screwdriver tx 15 to remove 2 plastic covers to access the wires. When looking at the front of the vacuum, the gray covers located on the right side of the vacuum. 1 big cover with a black rubber gasket and other small gray cover is on the rotating ball area.
This my new year resolution is to warn people not to buy Dyson vacuum cleaner ( Junk) design to break down! Shame on you Dyson!!!! Save your money find good old vacuum cleaner with metal parts.

OLD IS IN NEW IS JUNK!

Happy New Year!

Vacuum smells like burning rubber when on, no suction, leaving black marks on carpet

Usually when my vacuum smells like burning rubber, the belt needs to be changed and that is very easy to do. You just need to remove the the screws that hold in the rotator and put in a new belt. When the belt needs to be changed the vacuum will not pick up anything and this could make it seem like there is no suction. I hope this helps!

No suction

you still have a clog in there something is keeping the brushes from spinning. Be sure to remove any hair/string etc twisted around the brushes. Make sure the belt hasn't slipped off the metal pin behind the brushes, this is what creates the rotation. The brushes have a hard plastic molding on each end that fit into the sides of the vacuum. Make sure you have these on the right way or they will strip out and you have to replace the housing and the brushes. Have you cleared any blockages from the feed behind the brushes? Be sure to take the hose and extend it out and run a broom handle or something down it to be sure you do not have something lodged in there. Good luck .. if you need more detail post back. These can be rebuilt if needed, hopefully it is just something lodged further down the suction canal.
