Question about Singer 7462 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I have an Aldi Delta NM902-05 sewing machine which was stitching OK yesterday. Todya if it skipping a few stiches on the top sticth. My mum is the sewing whizz and she reckons it's the tension, however, it does not matter what number we change the tension to we are still getting some missed stitches. What do you suggest? Would cleaning it help? Thanks. Regards, Sarah.

Sarah if the top tension is to tight it might slip stitches but as always when there is a problem with stitching you should change the needle and make sure it is in right.
Taking the needle plate of and cleaning with a fine brush around the bobbin and feeders will help and should be done regular.

Hi - we bought an Aldi machine too - Delta FY780. I bought it but it wasn't used for about 8 months. When I used it it did exactly the same as the original question here, and no amount of adjusting would stop it missing stitches, about 1 in 12. It was new with demonstration sample attached which was perfect of course. It totally clean and I'm assuming its a brand new needle - sharp and no rust. Have others had the same problem with Aldi Delta sewing machines and if so what did you do to fix the problem please?

How to change stich to long stich for gathering?

http://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/3e3e5558857ed68836712ac8545abb48178772a5.pdf is the manual for your machine; look at p. 27. You want stitch 00, and then increase the stitch length with the up/down buttons on the control panel.

p. 24 of the pdf covers adjusting the top tension of the machine; you'll have an easier time of gathering if you reduce the top tension about 1-2 number setting.

I have a necchi 4575 and when I sew a straight stitch it will sew just fine and then for a few stictches it wil act as if its out of thread but then it will pick uop and sew normal for a few more stiches...

Sounds as though either the hook is out of time to the needle, or you have a bent needle. There are videos on Youtube that deal with sewing machine timing. Try a new needle, and make sure it is installed and seated correctly

When I am sewing it will sew about 3 stiches and then jam.. It does it if I change weight of material or it will s kip stiches.

Skipped stitches is usually indication that needle is blunt or burred.
Or if you are using a sharp needle on knit fabrics it may also skip a little.

Not sure what you mean by "change weight of material" - do you mean you are sewing applique and going from one fabric weight onto another? or different sewing projects?

It is a good idea to change your needle for each new project (4-6 hours sewing time max) and choose the right type of needle and size for your project.

However, the jamming part sounds more like thread tension issues, especially if the jamming is happening underneath from the bobbin. If stitching is loose underneath, then top tension is the problem and visa versa.

Recheck your threading path, top and bottom tensions and that you have good quality thread. Change the needle, rewind a fresh bobbin, thread up and try again.

There is really good info on www.sewing.about.com or I refer to my Singer Sewing Machine textbook at lot too. Good luck.

Brother XL2230 Elastic Overlock function not working properly

First of all check your needle size and utility, for the tension machine it must be the same on top and bottom example pull the top thread and the lower thread they must be the same.
When sticthing the elastic you must devide the amount of elastic versus the fabric : dise the amount before stiching
Hope this will help
Good day

Letters have skipped stiches in them

check a few things and report back if this doesn't solve the problem.   Needle:  Use a new needle appropriate for the weight of the fabric, most likely a size 11.
Stabilizer:  do you have support under the fabric such as Pellon or Stitch and Tear?  If the fabric is looped or piled, a thin layer of plastic such as a dry cleaning bag on top might help.
Thread:  Depending on your machine (check with the manufacturer) a stitch lubricant might help.  Is the thread flowing freely from the spool?  does it "catch" as it switches directions while unwinding from the spool?  If you are using a decorative thread such as sulky, you might want to reduce the thread tension.
Machine:  If you've had a needle hit there may be a burr on the machine, or the machine might be due for timing.

Skipped stitches and getting worse

It might be that you have the wrong needle/ thread combination for the fabric that you are using. sharps for wovens, ball point for knits. the heavier the fabric and the thicker the thread the larger needle you need to use.
