Wont Recognize DVD drive

I have a brand new laptop and my problem is when you insert a cd/dvd nothing happens. Iv'e tried to update the driver and it says its already updated. When I click Computer under the start menu It doesnt even Show I have any other drives than my C drive. When I go to the Device Manager and right click the DVD drive, Go to Properties and Message in the box says Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be currpt of missing. (code39). It says check for solutions and I click that but nothing happens! ??? I have exactly the same problem only I get a Code 19 error. I've taken all the steps recommended by Vista help directory.

My cd/dvd driver is not working on my hp notebook

Go to HP's support website, find your laptop, and get the missing driver, or find out what brand your cd/dvd drive is and go to the manufacturers website to get the driver. I hope this helps!

CD/DVD drive doesn't work

try removing the drive from the laptop, then go into the device menu and delete the drive. Restart. Shutdown again and insert the drive, restart - it should show a "new device" recognized. If it doesn't, the drive may just have failed. I've had it happen to a dell drive - it just doesn't see the drive at all.

GMA 4082n device driver not working properly code 39

First go into Setup (usually F1,F2 or del) at start-up. See if your drives show up there. With Windows running, right click My Computer, left click Properties, left click Hardware, left click Device Manager, left click DVD/CD-ROM drives. Also check IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Do the drives show up there? If they do right click on drive and left click Update Driver. If they are not there go back to System Properties and left click on Add Hardware Wizard. This will search for devices. It may ask you to insert Windows CD which of course you can not do because the drives don't work. Try a different drive. When you cleaned out your computer did you delete or uninstall Office? That may be what caused this problem. None of this may work but it is a starting point.

DVD player in Toshiba laptop won't work

First check that it is indeed a CD/DVD drive.

Also, you didn't say whether it was a video or data DVD. Assuming it's a video DVD, you'll need an mpeg2 decoder. (Something like WinDVD, PowerDVD, or Nero Showtime, or one of the many open source alternatives)

If neither video or data DVD's will work, you may need to update your driver for the drive, on the Toshiba website.

Wont Recognize DVD drive

Hi, the error code that you have is a known issue from Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver fro this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (code39)".
To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
