Actually, if you have this problem (and I really can't answer specifically because I don't know what printer you have) you can check the manufacturer's site for user and maintenence guides that should tell you how to do this.

With most printers you can remove the head if it is a laser printer, if its an ink jet the printing head is directly accessable by opening the front cabinet lid. You can use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to clean the underside of the head as well as the interior where the ink cartridge is placed.

Er I didn't pay close enough attention sorry. The ML 2010 laser printer has two heads which are part of the cartridge assembly. You can remove the cartridge completely and clean it directly.

Ink smudge on right side of paper

Chances are high that the process of clearing the jam has resulted in ink being released from the cleaning/resting pad area based over on the right hand side (where the printhead sits when not in use).
This waste ink has probable come into contact with the rollers and other parts over on the right edge of the paper.
You'll probably see this ink slowly fade out and disappear over time. If it doesn't however there's something effectively feeding things so check the resting pad for a loose tube, overflow, puddles, etc...
If there's anything like that, report back (preferably with images).

Printer Maintenance Tips

<span> <p>Keep the print heads clean<br /> <p>It is important you keep the printer heads clean. This stops ink clogging the nozzles of the printer, and reduces ink smudge on the paper. Use both Colour and black and white prints weekly to stop the nozzles on your printer getting clogged up, or the ink to simply dry up.<br /> <p>Be careful with printer jams<br /> <p>Don't ram the paper out if you have a paper jam. This can damage the printer, which I have seen done many times. Look at guides on the manufactures site, if you don't have time to do that, remember that you want to get the paper out smoothly. Most HP Printers have a hatch attached at the back that can be removed. You will then have access to the paper wheels, and you should be able to see the paper that is jammed in there. Remove the paper this way, and it is unlikely that you will damage the printer.<br /> <p>Power down correctly<br /></span>

.i used to have get good bright colored pix but

Try removing the print head again, removing the ink and re-cleaning the print head. Once it has been cleaned leave it to air dry for a few days before returning it to your printer and make sure the ink cartridges are fully clipped in. Let me know how you get on.

Printer is putting black smudges of ink of the paper. I changed the cartridge but it is still happening. What can I try next?

A printer will smudge ink when the printer heads are dirty. To resolve this, you need to take out the printer cartridges and clean off the dirt by rubbing alcohol on the printer head using a Q-tip.

It prints, but not visible, i change ink on all of them and is the same only in black, all other its fine on my MFC-420cn.

You have a dirty ir clogged print head. You can sometimes get it to work again by running a lot of cleaning cycles. 10-30 cycles is sometimes how many it can take. Unfortunately sometimes that won;t work so you have to hit it with a bigger hammer in this case you can clean the print head using q-tips or lint free paper towel and vinegar. The vinegar dissolves dried ink. If this works (it usually does the trick) the printer can work as well as the first day you got it.

Remove the ink cartridges. Then to clean it you need to wet the swab or the towel and gently rub the print head where it touches the paper. You will see a little ink then a lot then it will fade out as you get the head clean. Generally after it starts fading out that means you have most of the dried ink cleaned off. Replace the ink carts and then run a cleaning cycle and you should have your printer working again.

If none of these work then it may be too badly clogged and you should just consider getting a new printer as the print head is worth about what a new printer will cost.

Epson Stylus CX5000 blurry or smudged printing

epson uses pigmented ink and compatibles use dyes and thus if the paper is not of good quality then you can have this problem.

do the following

change the paper and try.

As there will be ink in the head and the ink feed tubes , print some 10 -15 copies of all color prints so that the original ink starts to get into the head and then the paper.

this should solve your problem

Also use your printer every 2 -3 days if you dont have any prints then give a noozle check and then switch off the printer. This will avoid the printer from doing a head clean very time you switch on the printer and also the ink will give you more output as there is less amount of head cleaning
