Sounds like the high pitched noise is coming from the solenoid valve which allows water to enter the humidifier. Typically when the water pressure is too high, it causes this high pitched sound at the solenoid valve. You can adjust the water pressure a little at a time and see if it helps, just make sure you’re getting enough water across the water panel.
The noise is probably coming from the hard drive, remove it and see if that will solve the problem. That high pitched sound means the hardware is on it's way out.
I have the same problem with the same model, so obviously it's not a single-unit problem. My only solution, since taking it back isn't feasible at this point, is to have a DVD on play-pause so that it's not on standby. Waste of energy, so I don't do it all the time, only when I'm sitting in the room late at night making the high-pitched noise hard to ignore.
This is possibly a sound card issue.
Your card may itself may need updated drivers.
Go into device manager and find your sound card and see if they have any updated drivers from there website.
If you happen to have another sound card throw it in and see if it does the same thing.
Last but not least is these speakers will work with a MP3 or other device, plug into them and see how it sounds, if your having the same problem with lets say a cd player or mp3 then the speaker itself is faulty.
What kind of Speakers are you using?
