First of all check whether the cartridges are installed correctly. take them out one by one, clean the copper contacts with a lint free cloth but be careful not to damage them. now while the cartridges are still out unplug the power cable from the rear panel of the unit. wait for a few seconds and then hold the # and 6 button on the panel of the unit together. now while holding these 2 buttons plug back the power cable. the screen will show reset done.release the # and 6 buttons. now put the cartridges back in and try to copy from the unit. then try to print from the computer.

OK now this might seem bizarre, but did you go ahead and click the "Black Only" print option?
I have a C6180. Just installed all new cartridges. Tried to print and got the message that Cyan is empty. Tried all sorts of things. Then out of frustration clicked the Black Onl option. Document came out printed in color! Double checked with a picture that has lots of cyan colors. It all printed too! Go figure.
I have a similiar issue that just started happening recently - the printer shows FULL inks but the PC thinks it has empty inks. I tried the * #, 123 reset hardware failures, but that didnt help. Printer run self diagnostics says all is fine....
I am using USB connections - and this has been fine for years, until now. Maybe a microsoft patch issue?
Well if you already installed a new black ink cartridge and still wont print, then try cleaning your printer head. It can be that the some ink was hardened and got stuck preventing you to print a black color.
This worked for me on C6180 Good luck and let me know
1.Try placing sheet of black text on copy board, and run many copies black only. I ran 25x12 times still no black. Run head clean after about each 50 sheets. Persevered and finally BLACK ink OK
do not print the printout from the pc.tyr to print a test copy by pressing the menu button on the printer and in that select the option print a self test.then press OK.if the test copy from printer gives proper black colour then its the print setting problem in the pc.just adjust that setting.but if the test page does not print any black line or object that means the cartridge is out of ink and needs replacement.
