New monitor now sound won't work. i probably hooked it up wrong

Some monitors come with speakers if your new one didn't then you would have to use external speakers and hook it up to your audio jack which is green and located on the back of your computer.

I have internal speakers on the monitor and I can't get the external speakers to work. There are no troubleshooting directions.

Hi,

Try to check what type of connection you're using if its HDMI, DVI or VGA. If happens you're using HDMI it has a capability to give sound you just have to check the settings on the monitor or on the pc tower unlike the VGA and DVI you need to use speaker jack to have a sound on your monitor.

Example Pics.

Need help getting audio to play on my HP 2009m monitor which is connected to my HP laptop.

Hi,
The speakers on the monitor will work only when the sound output from the laptop is connected to the monitor speakers. Please make sure that you connect the cable from "Audio OUT" (generally Green colored port where you connect your headphone or external speakers) on the Laptop to the "Audio IN" port on the monitor.
Please let me know if it works.

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

The sound is not working on the monitor.

  • check the system - device manager for sound adapter, checks for any markings on the device red x, yellow ? , or !
  • uninstall and re-install the device driver, or
  • install the sound drivers
  • use a headset or external speaker if it works the internal speaker needs replacement

No sound through external speakers

Although some monitors have built in speakers, most people have stand alone speakers. If the old monitor had built in speakers and now it is unplugged you won't hear sound. Even if the speaker cable is still plugged into the sound output on the back of your computer, the monitor must be plugged into an electrical outlet to have power.

I'd recommend buying a new set of external speakers if this is the situation.

If you never had speakers built into the monitor then normally changing monitors would make no difference whatever. The only explanation that makes sense under those conditions is that in the process of replacing the monitor, you dislodged the speaker jack from the sound output on the back of the computer.

Make sure your external speakers have electrical power plugged in, the power is on (green light on at least one speaker lights up) and the volume on the speakers is at least half way up.

Unplug the speaker from whatever hole it is plugged into and plug it firmly back in and test sound.

If still no sound other than some static on the speakers, try every single hole on the back of the computer that the jack will fit properly and test for sound.

Let me know if you have further questions.

I have received a new monitor as a gift for my computer. It is the W1934S and I was wondering if I should have sound with this display. I do have speakers from my previous monitor but there does not seem...

It doesn't come with speakers. see for yourself here.

If you want external speakers, connect the speakers to the back of the computer. the port will be a small, round green hole. to connect 2 speakers, you need a 3.5mm splitter.
