In all my experience im certain that either it is one of the following two problems.

1. The IDE or SATA cable physically connecting your optical device to the computer is not connected properly please check these by opening up your computer case and locating the reverse side of the optical drive and making sure both ends are connected , one to the motherboard and two in the backside of the optical drive.

2. The optical drive is faulty and will need to be replaced

all modern optical drives are detected by plug and play and judging by your previous attempts to install the device it's one of these problems.

cheers

Hi, not sure exactly what you are describing here; you are I believe using dual operating systems? There does seem to be a conflick, causing niether operating sytems to bootup correctly. I will give you the procedure to delete and install one operating system, if this is not what you wish, can you come back to me?
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing ESC button, or delete in some machines. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall of operating system will commence automatically (do not select boot from CD here).

My dell pc's sound system doesn't work, my computer tag number is optiplex GX270

This is a minor problem that can be fixed. Your sound card software or application might have been accidentally deleted so you will need to install a new one. If you still have your motherboard CD or the CD that came when you purchased this PC then insert it and search for the sound drivers. Or else, just download it from here and install.

I had print key exe on my system and harddrive crashes. How can I restore print key to my system?

I assume PrintKey is a program you had on your PC which may have accidentally been deleted. If you haven't deleted your trash file for some time, it may be in there and very easy to recover. It's possible you accidentally moved the file to another area on your drive. For this you will have to do a search and find of that program name and put it back where you think it belongs. I hope you have time to do some of these things before your hard drive crashes. Is there another copy of the program somewhere? can you find out who makes it and I'll try to send you a copy if it's shareware and not corrupt.

Click Run in the File Download dialog box and follow the steps in the wizard

When completed restart the computer and check the CD/DVD drive

(you may need to run Fix It twice)

Need to find correct driver to reinstall.

Optical drives never require a driver when used in any Windows os from Win95 up. Windows XP provides native support that allows this drive to read a data or music disk and to burn a cd-r disk. No support for playing dvd disks or for burning dvd or cd-rw disks. For those tasks, compatible 3rd. party recording & dvd decoding software is required.

If your problem is non-detection, ie: drive is not listed in "My Computer", please read post #24 in this thread: http://forums.driverguide.com/showth...t=21669&page=4

It contains instructions on the delete the upper and lower filters fix

Also, there is a STICKY posted in this forum that contains a file from Microsoft and instructions that will do this registry edit automatically instead of having to do it manually.

And here's another method that will do this automatically for you if you're afraid to edit the registry manually.

Code: http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22131
(automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip)

Alternately, download and install the DVD fix from the Web site below.

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs

After performing this registry fix, just reboot the pc. Now your drive should be visible in My Computer and work properly.

During startup at the Dell Screen hold down the CTRL key and tap F11 twice

It may display the Dell Recovery from which you can set your computer back to factory settings

My friend of mine downloaded some pictures onto a cd for me. I put it in my computer and nothing is coming up. How do i view these pictures on my acer desktop computer?

If a window doesn't automatically open when you insert the cd you can click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop then click on your cd drive. If you still don't see anything it is possible that there is nothing on the cd. If you right click on your cd drive icon and click properties it will tell you if how much used space is on the cd. If all the space is free space then the cd is still blank.
