If it provides you with a list of devices which are installed continue to the bottom of the list and choose:

add a new hardware device

then choose the automatic option and it will try to detect the new CD - drive

also previously did you see the CD-Rom device listed in the device manager ?

if the BIOS cant detect the drive , it's not connected properly , it's not a matter of Enabling it within BIOS , you must make sure it is properly connecting through the IDE or SATA interface and properly connected with power !

If you can't see it, on the My Computer panel, it's not there..and this will require going into bios to make sure settings are good.

you will NOT be able to see that drive, if the BIOS can't..you will need to enter setup(be careful in that area) and enable the CD rom..

My PC somehow deleted it's own cd/dvd driver. Possibly from a virus that has been eradicated already. Any idea where I can download one from that will work with the dimension 2200?

Hello,
You should first run the add new hardware wizzard, looking specifically for CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives. If the drive is not defective Windows will most certainly detect it and install the appropriate drivers.

To run Add new hardware wizzard, Go to Control Panel, On the left (WIN XP) choose classic view. Find the Add New Hardware icon and click on it. Allow the wizzard to install driver automatically, allow it to go tho the Internet if necessary.

Hope it helps.

Deleting novell client 4.91 sp4 without going into windows xp

First of all - you can not format the hard drive from within Windows. That would be like painting a chair while you sit on it.
You have to insert a Windows CD in the CD drive and then start the computer. Everything else will be pretty straight forward form there.

Do you have a Windows Operating system CD? If not you either buy one or - in case you don't want to spend any money, get a free Linux CD from somewhere.(download or a friend).

Did you try to uninstall the Novell Client from within Windows? Go to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, look for anything that is related to Novell and uninstall it. That would save you a complete re-install.

If this all doesn't make any sense to you , let me know. Also, if you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Dvd / cd rom not recognized on my computer list

1) Go to Control Panel. Open the System Icon.
2( Click on Hardware Tab, then click on Device Manager.
3) The device manager will list all of your hardware that is on your computer. If you see a yellow? mark oryellow ! mark next to your DVD/CD rom drive, simply click on it then click Repair. It also may tell you that it is not recognozied. Follow the directions.
4) If you do not see this in your Device Manager go to Add Hardware in your Control Panel which is next to your Add/Remove Programs icon. Click on Add Hardware and it will scan for all hardware.
** This should take care of your problem. If not then somehow the actual connection in your tower has come loose. If so you must open your tower and look for a loose wire going to your DVD/CD rom drive.

Cant Remove Optical Drive to add memory

At HP's web site, the instructions mention removing a screw on the side of the CD to remove it from the box. Try looking here. (If that link doesn't work, go to www.hp.com and in the search window, enter S3020n. Click on Help & Troubleshooting, then Setup and Install, then Adding & Removing Hardware. There's a link to replace the CD there. They also have PDF versions of the manuals.

Hi

Ok First to ensure that your CD-Rom / DVD is installed correctly

Goto the control panel if you can see a whole list of icons find and click on system

otherwise find Performance and maintenance and then click on system

now up the top of this new window find and click the hardware tab

finally click on the Device Manager button , this will bring up the Device manager window

in this window look for and expand by clicking the plus Icon next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives

if you see anything in here your CD drive is installed. You will probably find that either you optical drive is either disconnected and the ribbon cable connecting it to the motherboard will need to be checked , or you have got a faulty optical drive

If you cant see anything in here go back to the control panel and find add hardware if you cant see that icon click on printers and other hardware and in the left hand side bar click on add hardware.

This will bring up a step by step wizard

after clicking next on the initial screen windows will do a scan and try and detect any hardware devices that have not been installed yet. If on the next screen you are asked "Have you connected the hardware?" please open up your PC and check the ribbon connection on the reverse of the optical drive and make sure the power connectors etc are properly seated.

If this works follow the on screen steps and installation will be straight forward.

Hopefully this will solve your problems

Cheers.

If you have any other queries please respond

Thankyou

Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close.

If you delete the information in the Control Panel and restart your computer, it will look for the driver by itself.

Dell e510 cd dvd rw not working

Try going into your Device manager start right click on my computer click on properties then click hardware tab. Under this tab click device Manager. Under disc drives find the drive that you are having problems with and right click on it. Then try to update drivers. If this dose not work do the same thing but this time uninstall the drive. After it uninstalls go to your controll pannel and click on add hardware. It should find and reinstall the cd rom and it's associated files and hopefully work once again.

TROUBLESHOOTING

first, get a paper clip, and push it through the small hole on the drive, this will manually eject the drive, allowing you to get the CD. Next right click on my computer, and select properties. now go to the hardware tab, and hit device manager. Now look for a tab called DVD/CD ROM Drives, expand this tab. Right click on one of the drives, and select "uninstall" select OK for all of the pop up windows. do the same thing for any of the other drives. now reboot, and follow the direction in the "Add New Hardware wizard that comes up. You might also have to reinstall the drivers, but that is the easier part
