thanks mr. jhie for your solution regarding "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed.." when trying to install XP on my laptop..

as per your solution h/d wad disable but it is not so...h/d is not disabled..this is infact coz of unavailability of SATA drivers in XP installation CD..anyway I've fixed the problem and installed XP successfully..what I've done is as below :

start your machine and make a temporary directory like "C:\NEWXP"

Keep one blank CD in advance...(you will have to make this blank CD nstallation CD after following

ensure that your SATA dirvers are available in "C:\Drivers" may also keep in other dir...this is what I did...

installed nlite 1.4.8 (d/l from ,inserted the XP cd in drive[o try to proceed XP installation now, just click close(X)]

Now run the nlite will ask the location of XP installation CD, so select the drive your XP installation CD drive it will prompt you to select the location "C:\NEWXP"...

copying of files from XP inst. CD to "C:\NEWXP" will start...when it finished..just click next..till you get the window having optionlist "dirvers,....components....bootable ISO..." drivers and Bootable ISO next..

in the next screen clickt "insert"...then select "single driver"...

Now you will be prompt to select drivers..locate your driver from "c:\drivers"..

next screen enlist the available all "press CTRL+A"...then click Ok..

now the process finished...only thing left is to burn your New XP installation CD....remove win Xp cd and insert your new blank CD...

in next screen "burn CD"...and click "burn"....wait till it remove the CD.. have prepared nex XP installation CD that will work on computer having SATA ..

plz. leave any suggestion to add up..

Hi i purchased a dell 1318 laptop from china suddenly i cont install xp it,s support only win7 while trying to install xp it will display the error message like this

Your laptop may have a SATA hard drive.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I have hp pavilion dv 2000 laptop, during windows xp installtion the massage comes that setup didn't find hard disc drive installed in your computer. what is the problem???

Here is the User Guide
Most likely the hard drive is bad.
To check power on the computer and enter BIOS by pressing F10 (Just keep hitting F10 until it enters BIOS)
Go to the system configuration menu And boot options, if no hard drive is listed then it is bad and needs to be replaced. You can attempt to unscrew the back pull out the hard drive and re seat it(plug it back in)
Also in BIOS check for Enhanced SATA mode and make sure it is off or in compatibility mode. Windows XP never shipped with SATA support and will result in a blue screen error during install. So turn off enhanced sata mode and it will run as an old IDE interface so to speak.

Error "Setup didn't find HDD"

Well, first of all XP is not the latest supported operating system from Microsoft.

That being said, I have not had a garbled screen followed by an error message 'setup didn't find any hard disk drive installed' on a laptop, in my limited experience with laptops (i.e. Acer One, Acer Aspire, Sony Vaio, etc.)

If you have an unexpected garbled screen it points to the pc board or mother board or the video card, but more likely the motherboard.

And, if you couple this with the hard disk drive not being detected, it reminds me of a situation where I had a no hard disk drive detected on a SCSI drive connected to my Windows 95 computer in the 1990s when I had heat related issues with the circuitry on the hard drive getting burnt out capacitors.

If the drive is not recognized, it might mean the boot sector is wiped, and essentially it needs to be reformatted and the operating system needs to be reinstalled (which you evidently tried to do).

To my memory, I never had this problem on Windows XP with a laptop, so I am thinking it's not Windows that is at fault, but the physical hardware is giving you problems.

If you boot from the CD for Windows XP and it doesn't find the drive, it's a big problem for this laptop.

I wish you luck in finding an answer to that one, seeing that it's out of warranty and XP is no longer supported by

How to install win xp in toshiba portage r200 laptop

This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive) the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.

I don't think this is possible. Still we can work on this.

Even I am verymuch Intersted with these kind of issues. I haven't tried installing XP on USB flash drive. But I installed the XP on USB harddrive and it worked.

We can try this with your co-operation. To boot with the USB devices, first your computer or laptop should have the option to boot with the USB devices. You can check in BIOS, under BOOT order for this option.

If USB boot option is not there, then you cannot boot with the Flash drive, not only flash drive all USB devices. They will work only after booting into Windows.

Comming to installation procedure, installtion is same as installing the XP on harddrive. While installing the XP, at partition page, you can see the USB flash drive, select it and continue the installtion.

If your computer has the option to boot with the USB devices and if the flash drive won't boot into Windows after installtion, then we have to set Flash drive as Active partition from Disk Management, and then we can try. In Disk Management, right click on the USB drive and select set active partition. If it won't allow to set the USb flash drive as active, then it is not possible to install XP on flash drive.

Even I googled everywhere on how to do this, but not information.
Try that and let me know the status. But I am sure, it is possible on Pocket drivers or USB harddrives.

seems that it's a SATA drive and the drivers are not included in XP.
There are some tools available to include these drivers into the XP CD.
Search the net for 'xp-iso-builder' or 'n-Lite'.

This is not necessary if your laptop's got a floppy drive (i don't think so). Then the SATA drivers can easily be loaded by pressing F6 when booting from the XP CD.

How to install XP in toshiba Satellite L45-S7423 laptop

You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files.
