thanks mr. jhie for your solution regarding "setup did not find any hard disk drives installed.." when trying to install XP on my laptop..

as per your solution h/d wad disable but it is not so...h/d is not disabled..this is infact coz of unavailability of SATA drivers in XP installation CD..anyway I've fixed the problem and installed XP successfully..what I've done is as below :

start your machine and make a temporary directory like "C:\NEWXP"

Keep one blank CD in advance...(you will have to make this blank CD nstallation CD after following

ensure that your SATA dirvers are available in "C:\Drivers"..you may also keep in other dir...this is what I did...

installed nlite 1.4.8 (d/l from nliteos.com) ,inserted the XP cd in drive[o try to proceed XP installation now, just click close(X)]

Now run the nlite application..it will ask the location of XP installation CD, so select the drive your XP installation CD drive

.......now it will prompt you to select the location "C:\NEWXP"...

copying of files from XP inst. CD to "C:\NEWXP" will start...when it finished..just click next..till you get the window having optionlist "dirvers,....components....bootable ISO..."....select drivers and Bootable ISO both....click next..

in the next screen clickt "insert"...then select "single driver"...

Now you will be prompt to select drivers..locate your driver from "c:\drivers"..

next screen enlist the available drivers..select all "press CTRL+A"...then click Ok..

now the process finished...only thing left is to burn your New XP installation CD....remove win Xp cd and insert your new blank CD...

in next screen ...select "burn CD"...and click "burn"....wait till it finishes....now remove the CD..

congrats...you have prepared nex XP installation CD that will work on computer having SATA ..

plz. leave any suggestion to add up..

    thanks

Installallation of xp

the xp does not recognize the SATA hard disk of your computer, you must install SATA drivers during the installtion of XP.

Installation of windows XP

preachw996 has it... you must enable the SATA drive you want to install XP onto as your 1st IDE DRIVE/DEVICE (ie. you are telling BIOS to dummy a SATA drive in to the 1st IDE position).

Only then will you be able to recognise the drive as a boot device.

This is done in BIOS.

It means your hard drive is not connected to the computer. Go into the BIOS and check to make sure it shows up. The best thing, set the BIOS to the default setting.

You can access Vista disk management (right click on computer from the Start Menu > Manage > Storage > Disk Management) and shrink your current partition and create a new one. Then install XP on that new partition. This is if you want a dual boot of both XP and Vista.

INSTALLATION

Hello,

I don't think this is possible. Still we can work on this.

Even I am verymuch Intersted with these kind of issues. I haven't tried installing XP on USB flash drive. But I installed the XP on USB harddrive and it worked.

We can try this with your co-operation. To boot with the USB devices, first your computer or laptop should have the option to boot with the USB devices. You can check in BIOS, under BOOT order for this option.

If USB boot option is not there, then you cannot boot with the Flash drive, not only flash drive all USB devices. They will work only after booting into Windows.

Comming to installation procedure, installtion is same as installing the XP on harddrive. While installing the XP, at partition page, you can see the USB flash drive, select it and continue the installtion.

If your computer has the option to boot with the USB devices and if the flash drive won't boot into Windows after installtion, then we have to set Flash drive as Active partition from Disk Management, and then we can try. In Disk Management, right click on the USB drive and select set active partition. If it won't allow to set the USb flash drive as active, then it is not possible to install XP on flash drive.

Even I googled everywhere on how to do this, but not information.
Try that and let me know the status. But I am sure, it is possible on Pocket drivers or USB harddrives.

seems that it's a SATA drive and the drivers are not included in XP.
There are some tools available to include these drivers into the XP CD.
Search the net for 'xp-iso-builder' or 'n-Lite'.

This is not necessary if your laptop's got a floppy drive (i don't think so). Then the SATA drivers can easily be loaded by pressing F6 when booting from the XP CD.

You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files.
