14hp kohler on craftsman mower will run for awhile then runs out oh gas. I have replaced filter & fuel lines & cleaned out fuel tank. Will run for awhile until filter goes dry ..... Then filter slowly refill and will run again. I noticed what looks like a solenoid on the bottom of fuel bowel .... Could it be bad, the elect connection is good.

There will be an anti fire solinoid on the bottom of the carb bowl, the idea is to shut off the fuel in the main jet when the engine is switched off, you should hear a click as soon as the ignition is switched on, you can take it out and check that the centre pin goes in when the ignition is switched on. If it has an external vacume pump, it may not be working, these are fitted where there is no gravity feed to the carb from the tank, if the fuel hose from the tank goes to a component and then to the carb it does have a pump, pull the fuel hose off the carb and crank the engine, there should be a steady flow of fuel, if not check the vacume hose has not become detached, if ok replace the pump.

Kohler 14hp magnum, New fuel pump, lines, filter and New gas. It will start if I put gas in the carb but doesn't stay running also new fuel tank cap????

Points to dirty carb... Clean Carb. But first. I know it's new, but is fuel pump pumping? Pull line off pump going to carb, crank engine to see if fuel is pumping out of the port. Is it installed correctly? Center line pulse line securely connected to valve cover or wherever it is obtaining vacuum from. Are you sure pulse line has no breaks, cracks etc.? Then pull line off pump on the tank side, is fuel freely flowing out of line on that side? If all the above test good, then you have a dirty carb, and it needs to be pulled off and cleaned. Have Fun!

I have 15.5hp Kohler engine on my Craftsman mower. After running for awhile, acts like it is out of gas, backfires and acts like it is going to die. Without the hood on it runs longer

sounds like it is over heating or boiling the fuel. take the metal engine covers off and clean the air vents out real good. blow out with air hose. put covers back on. move the fuel line where the most air is hitting it from the engine. be sure the fuel cap is good.

My 12 year Craftsman lawn tractor with 20.5 hp B/S engine and 42" blades will not start. The starter turns over fine but no start. I don't know if it is igntion or fuel problem. I replace the...

Test for spark. Make sure the air filter is clean. Then make sure fuel is getting from the gas tank to the carb. Old rubber fuel line deteriorate and stop up small ports and parts in the carb. An inline fuel filter is a good idea on these larger engines. Sometimes, a larger B & S engine needs the OH valves adjusted to start easily and run properly. If after attempting to start, does the new plug get wet or even smell like gas? You should always use gas LESS than 30 day old. Gas goes stale like bread and milk. You can remove the fuel line from the fuel tank at the carb to drain old gas. You can also remove the carburetor bowl to check for water and sediment (which need to be cleaned out). Check these things and post back.

Riding lawnmower wont run long

Check for dirt in gas tank some times stuff will fall in when filling and block the hole in bottom of gas tank and wont let gas flow clean everything out and see if it works. Also check that all kill switches are tight and not moving.

I have a craftsman gt 6000 with kohler 18 hp magnum today it started fine and ran goodd for over an hour i put gas in it and ti would not stay runing it stated surging and popping and cuts off

Your carb is full of trash. you also probaly need to clean out the bottom of your fuel tank, blow out your lines and replace the fuel filter. I have 2 mowers with kohler engines and clean out the fuel tanks fuel lines and carbs 1 time a year. There is also a fuel shut solenoid on the carb this is normally problem if the engine does not run. but I am certain your problem is a simple fix, all you have to do is clean everything out in the fuel system.

Motor runs for 5-10 min. then starts missing and quits.

Check your spark first,if you do not have spark your problem is the coils-if you do have spark the problem probaly lies withone of your valves getting stuck after getting hot and soonas it cools down a little it closes and then you can restart it till it gets hot again.Hope this helps

Engine only runs with choke full on. Dies when off full choke.

Hi Dave, it sounds crazy, but try this. Check your gas cap. It could be clogged, causing a vacuum to occur in the tank, and therefore not allowing the carb. to take on gas. It usually take 10-15 min. for this to occur. The next time you run the mower and it starts to stall out, loosen the gas cap and see if it begins to run again. If it does, then you know that the gas cap is clogged.
