Most laptops nowadays have the recovery built right into the laptop, saved into the hard drive. This makes things more convenient!

  1. If you have a flash drive or external hard drive, get it out and start backing up *important* files. If you do the recovery part wrong, you may lose files you don't want to lose, so do this step first!
  2. Once you have your files backed up, turn the laptop off.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then turn the laptop back on. As soon as you see things on the screen, press f9 until you see a loading screen you may not have seen before. This is the recovery software loading up.
  4. Follow the steps and prompts to get through the process; it varies laptop to laptop. When and if given the option, keep the user settings/documents folders. Some recoveries do that.
Done! Hope that helps!

There is no restore to factory default option for laptops or PCs for that matter the only option if you cant get rid of the viruses, is to re install the Operating System. You might try downloading Malwarebytes and installing that and running a scan with it to get rid of the viruses first before re installing the operating system

SOURCE: i dont know how to restore my asus x58c laptop to

Bottom line- You can't. Unlike other electrical equipment there is no magic "factory reset" button. You need at least an OS install disc and a back-up of the drivers. At one time the discs were supplied with PC's but this very rarely happens and the paperwork supplied normally advises you make your own back up discs before you get carried away, but it very rarely happens.

It may be worth looking at why you wish to restore to original, is it necessary?

How to reset to factory default with out discs

Asus has become one of the "Top 5" computer manufacturers worldwide.

CNET attributes this growth to the Netbook craze.

The company's name comes from the last four letters of "Pegasus," the winged horse from Greek Mythology.

You can restore your Asus laptop to the original factory settings in about five minutes.

Restart your ASUS laptop and press the "F9" key while the computer is booting up.

This will open the boot screen. Select "Recover Windows to Entire HD" and press "Enter."

Press "Y" three times when asked if you are sure that you want to restore.

The laptop will restore the factory settings.

The computer will then shut down and start up again.

Approve the license agreement, then select your "Language preference."

Enter your name into the box and click "Next."

Enter your password twice on the next screen and select "Next."

Enter the time zone and date information, then select "Next." Select "Finish" on the next screen and the computer will reboot.

hope this helps

Have a virus. How do I do system restore to factory settings?

Hi

Have you any anti virus installed on your laptop ??

doing a factory restore is a bit drastic if having a virus is the only problem

there are several free anti virus programs on the net that you can download
that is if your laptop is still usable

free avg is quite a good one just be careful and read each stage of install so that you don't install some of the stuff that they wanna give you along with the free avg

If you still wanna do a system restore back to factory settings
make sure you save any files or pics that you don't want to loose on a spare hard drive or pen drive
or even burn them to disk
that is given the fact that your laptop is still working

DID you do any back up disks when you first had the laptop this would be useful if you did

Some acer's have a recovery partition
i think its some where like
start
programs
acer empering technology
acer erecovery manager
restore or recover something like that
click on it
follow the on screen instructions
windows will restart and hopefully do the recover

good luck
but i would try to remove the virus before a system recovery

My Asus k50Ij laptop was stolen now i got it back they changed the user name what can i do please help

Reinstall the operating system - it should wipe out the password and viruses that may have installed when they used it. Unfortunately, if it's a HDD password - get another hard drive. Go to the ASUS website and determine if there is a recovery partition in the hard drive to restore back to factory settings.

My asus 1001ha is infected with viruses & wont do anything how do i restore to factory settings?

If it is a bad virus that won't let you do anything on the computer, follow the instructions on this link. If you can install programs on your computer, follow only steps 7 and 8 from the above link.

If you still want to restore it to factory settings, you will need the restoration CD/DVD that came with the laptop, put it in the drive and boot from it to start the restoration to factory settings. If you don't have the restoration disc, you will need a Windows installation disc to install a clean copy of Windows and wipe the HDD. Same process, put disc in and boot from it then follow the instructions for Windows installation (you will need the drivers disc though).

Hi there,

you can download avast virus scanner its free.

or if you want to restore to factory settings turn the laptop on and hold F11

Or if you have system discs then just insert this and turn the laptop back on and it will boot from them.
