How do I setup different departments for phone calls to be directed to on a Panasonic KX-T7731?

It's done on a Voice Mail System that's added to the telephone system using the "Automated Attendant" feature. There's a "Card" that plugs into some systems to do the job, but many installers don't like the way they work. There's also an outboard box KX-TVA50 that's got it all. The older version was a KX-TVS50 with almost as many features (hundreds of them) but has less record time and wasn't as expandable.

What phone system is the 7130 attached to? Panasonic makes a TVA voice mail system that interfaces to a TA-624 or higher model that will give you individual mailboxes and a means to transfer calls to them.

Street price of a new TVA-50 is in the $600 range, but you can find an older TVS50 for less.

We'd like to have background music when callers are on hold. We have only the Quick Reference Guide, which tells you to 'input a parameter' - what is this parameter? Thanks

Music on hold requires programming and a music source plugged into the system cabinet. If you don't have a set of manuals and MOH by default, you need to acquire a set of manuals and access to the installer portion of system programming.

I suggest you contact your Panasonic dealer.

Take a look at the manual. One of the bits in programming deals with the status of the FWD/DND button. You can make it light solid for FWD and flash for DND. There are other ways to intercept the calls, but trust me, this is the cleanest. You set 7104 165 # and it will forward always on no answer after x rings. Those rings are set system wide and can be adjusted in programming.

If you sit down wiht the PG manual, pay attentiion to programs 202,203,619 and 990 area 9 bits 3&4. A ring cycle is about 6 seconds and the default intercept is TWELVE rings....you should adjust that to no more that 4.

Ring need only 1 phone, how can this

Unless someone stripped the documentation from the product, there's a set of manuals and a CD with programming software in the box. In a system as complex as this, couldn't you at least take the time to open one or the other and read? At the very least, start at page 10 of the PROGRAMMING manual (PT programming) and it will tell you how to set the date and time. Pay attention to system programs 400 and 408-410. That's where you tell the sytsem how many lines and where they ring.

I have a kxtd824 with a tvs50 voicemail. When in

DIL? It's a term not used in an 824. Incoming ringing is controlled via MC 3.2 or programs 408 and 411 for DAY ringing. Ring delay (411) could alter the ringing even if it's set to ring in 408.

5. Programming
The Getting Started Guide gives clear instructions as to basic programming via a KX-T7730 system-phone. To enter the program mode with a KX-T7730 simply press the programme button followed by * # and your password. However, one of the interesting aspects of this system is the ability to use a PC to configure the system. Windows based software is supplied with the system. You simply load the software and connect to your PC via a USB port. The USB lead is not supplied with the system.
