2001 Maytag PAV 2300 just started making loud grinding noise when it went into wash cyle and continued into rinse and spin as I moved the dial around to those cyles. It also smelled a little like hot rubber at one point.

On this model washer the noise is most likely caused by a worn washer tub seal assembly. remove agitator (nut on the top under cap), spin basket and tub assembly. remove seal and install new one.

I have the same type washer and it is about the same age makes the same grinding noise as the above mentioned one. Did this person ever find a solution?

pull the agit out and look at the side just below the slots there is a small hole there and the lock screw is probably missing . / to pull agit you turn the screw out and to lock it down you turn it in till it stops . if no lock screw the out comes the agit ... could be very bad in spin if it came out . i have heard of this .. so lock it down .. **** hope this helps .

Hi, this is a bad transmission gear box that is stripped at the moment. i recommend purchasing a agitator kit and a new transmission Assembly and clutch as well. this will fix your issues

It sounds like a spn down noise. I would check to see if the brake spring was changed when the brake and stator was. They had some problems with weak springs.

It's more likely something caught in the pump or bad pump. Remove the belt under the machine and check the pump pulley for noise.
