Power will not stay on

I replaced the convergence IC's with stk392-180 because the convergence would not adjust ( I was advised to go to the 180 because they would handle the heat). Now the power to the unit will come on and turn it self off in 5 seconds.

3157 and 3158 resistors in that area.

you have to check them. if faulty then replace them..

u got to attempt such a repair, I strongly suggest that you get the information needed to access the convergence adjustments at the service level for your set. I also suggest that you use original Sanyo parts. Sanyo is the OEM for all STK series chips. There are cheap copies on the market as well as batches of bad parts that are suspected of being rejects that have been redistributed on the black market

Did the TV work before even with the convergence failure?

Posted on Aug 19, 2008

  • Jaime Hernandez Aug 19, 2008

It might be that the new ICs have a different horizontal frequency and that's why the TV is turning OFF. In order to use the stk392-180 instead of the OEMs, there might be a modification needed with the resistors due to the higher wattage of the 180.

My suggestion would be to use the parts that were design to work for this TV. If heat is your concern, you can add a 12V cooling fan to keep them cool.

Colored lines at top and bottom when tv comes on and seeing double vision in different colors at all times

If your tv is not a DLP the problem is in the convergence, try to adjust it using your original remote control go to the setting menu then to the convergence section. Adjust the red and blue convergence. you should move the red and the blue in up, down and left, right if this color does not move far enough your convergence IC is already defective. Replacing this convergence IC will solve the problem. In locating this convergence IC you should remove the back cover of your unit but be sure to unplug it before doing this. This convergence IC is attached to a large aluminum plate, it is the heat sink, and it has a marking of stk- ### followed by numbers. You can try to pull it out using a soldering iron and soldering pump but be careful you may damage the board and cause much problem to your unit. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.

Have a Sony KP-65WV600, already replaced d board once, and replaced convergence ic's once also. Now as soon as I turn unit on, turns to red screen and shuts off, video that is, audio works ok, noticed...

Check High voltage Block. After replacing ic's (STK convergence ic's) you need to adjust Black&White scale.Turn ALL screen adjustments to min.Turn TV on and adjust screen slowly for each gun (I would start with Red first ) when you came to point that you see red background with white lines across, at that point G2 is too high (that will cause TV to shut down, don't worry just lowered adjustment and turn tv back on) so adjust to proper voltage and do the same for each gun. After that, adjust focus for each gun (again all controls are on High Voltage Block and HVB is mounted on front of your tv after you take speaker gril out) black box with 6 controls' screen RGB, focus RGB .
You should do that in dark room in order to get perfect Black&White scale, when all guns are adjusted properly you will see grey picture.Make sure 'Color" adjustment on your display is down to 0. Another step is convergence adjustment ,Flash Focus etc.If TV stil shuts off after all, your Red picture tube is short inside, take crt pcb from tube, make sure TV is unpluged from power before that, and turn Tv on .If stays On tube need replacment...good luck)

On my mitsubishi ws65909 I have a 2-2 power light error code, what does this mean? any suggestions, I tried to power it up and the power light comes on and then goes off after 15-20 sec's

the famous code error 2- 2 is for fault in power supply or faulty power supply board. this has to be checked.
and error 2-3 is fault in convergence ic.so both the error codes are near to each other.so check out both options. i advise first replace the convergence ic on the board and check.the cost of each convergence stk ic is near to $15 .there are two such ic on the convergence board and both has to be replaced.then check out.if the problem is same go for power supply board replacement.

the ic which you have to remove and replace is stk 393-110 both the ic looks same anve same number .
you can get the required board and components at ----- www.partstore.com -------- or from ------ www.radioshack.com ----
---------
if you are not familiar with doing this you can get it done by local tv repair technician familiar with this model tv.
-----------
This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

Convergence

If you can not adjust the convergence, then you need to change the convergence IC's The number of the IC is on the chip. There maybe one or two IC chips. I think there are about 12 to 15 pins or so, and will be mounted to a heat sink. There maybe surrounding resistors that need to be replaced too. I hope this is helpful.

PT-47WX53G wont turn on 3 blinking lights from the power area.

If the red power LED is blinking 3 times--it is most likely a shorted convergence IC---the only way you can be sure is to remove the light box--I can tell you how by email--and unsolder the two STK-392-110 ic chips----they are on two heat sinks made of aluminum next to each other; if you open the back cover and find them you will see about a dozen blue(light blue) resistors marked 2.2 ohm----if any of those are some what white in the middle(discolored) they are gone and the set will never adjust until you replace them and the two convergence IC chips---What I usually do in this case is remove the light box and unsolder both IC chips and plug it in and turn it on---if the set now comes on and stays on--I replace the IC chips and adjust the set---I have done hundreds of these sets---3 blinks is almost always a bad convergence IC--if this was helpful give me a vote---AND IF YOU NEED DIRECT ASSISTANCE contact me at:

Convergence problem

replace the convergence ic. the IC# is STK392-120, replace this two ic at the same time. then put some silicon grease on the back of the IC for better heat transfer. some will work on replacing just 1 IC but I would recommend to replace both per philips advise. hope this help. regards, cebuwano.

Sony HDTV Convergence Issue

No, You will not solve the problem with only changing the convergence IC, associated resisters may also be required.
Beside of that, after spending time to get parts and replace the ICs, you need to make and adjustment the color lines (about 14 lines)
This adjustment without experience will take you about 3 to 4 times and 4 hours each to get thing right (if you areskillfull, most of people failed this adjustment).. The total time spend for this problem would take you full 24 working hours.
I successfully adjusted one set of my big TV (95%, need more more round)), on another set one I failed.
