You might have your security set to high if it is asking for a password , go to tools and click on internet options , then click on the security tap and lower your security level. then see if it will download for you

hope this works for you

CAN'T CONNECT TO THE INTERNET.

ok then try these

Solution #1:
go to dells website (from another computer this one can't)
go get the drivers for the LAN or nic. install them see if your internet works then. if not move on to solution #2

Solution #2:
type open command prompt and type in ipconfig

this will bring up a bunch of numbers (ip addresses) we want the "default Gateway" write this down or remember quick and type it into the address bar of your browser (Internet explorer, Firefox, etc) press enter. you should get one of 2 things either the settings for your router or something asking user name n password. if its the user name password try (if u do not know what it is) admin for both if its not then try password as the password. once in there restore your to your factory settings.

Acer Desktop Veritron M460 will not load Windows XP or Vista!

This problem may occur if the Ntfs.sys file is missing or becomes corrupted when you convert your hard disk to NTFS To resolve this problem, replace the missing or corrupted Ntfs.sys file:
  1. Use the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD to restart your computer.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
  3. Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command): cd \windows\system32\drivers

ren ntfs.sys ntfs.oldNote This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
  6. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\driversWhere cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, anddrive is the drive where you installed Windows XP.
  7. Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
  8. Restart the computer.I hope this helps. The other thing I can think of is maybe your harddrive needs a raid driver. If this is a sata drive and an old version of you os,the sata driver may not be already on the disk and you will have to insert one.Let me know if the first solution works,if not we can try the raid driver.

I have forgotten the password that i used when opening my account. please assist. thank you phill rogers

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password
You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

My daughter came home from college and we tried to hook her acer laptop (with vista home basic) up to our ethernet connection. My laptop is hooked up to it and also our desktop. Hers wont just be connected...

open up internet explorer>tools>connections and make sure never dial a connection is ticked as it seems as if its trying to dial a connection instead of using the always online connection that the router provides.

Close IE and the open it up again, refresh window if required and it should go online

Netgear WGR614

First thing I did with my Netgear is this.
Plug in the dsl/cable modem to the PC directly. Then install the driver on the cd. If you are one of the unlucky types like I was, the router didn't come with a cd. Try going to Netgers page see if they have a driver. Most are basically auto install. Try this before you check the netgear site though. Plug in the cable/dsl modem to the router and the pc to the router. Resstart everything. This includes the modem, router and pc. When it pops back up, try seeing if that works. if not, try opening up Internet explorer. Type this in to the url. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0
That should bring up the netgear setup page for the router. If it ask for a password, the password on mine was
username - admin
password - password
It has an auto configure tab so click on that and that should automatically take care of everything for you. Let me know what happens!
