Water pressure has dropped over time. when softener is bypassed, water pressure is fine

A inline water softener functions similar to a filter. When a filter become clogged it restricts water flow. Perhaps this is what is happening with the inline softener unit. Try changing to a new unit.

Where can I get a Rheem water heater repair manual

I would first look at the owners manual and or the schematics. You can probably find it on line if you have the model and serial number. I would then call a Rheem dealer or contact the company to see what that error code is. Personally I wouldn't try to fix it myself because it's gas and if you screw up you could blow youself up or burn the house down. That's why I buy electric water heaters and a water softener. I may pay a little more in electric but with the softner to remove the lime, I never have to change an element, only add salt about every 3 months.

My water heater is leaking and only 4 years old. Will the use of a water softener void the warranty?

The warranty should not be void by using water softener, BUT read product manual.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-manufacturers.html

1) First thing: Why is water heater leaking? Where is the leak?
http://waterheatertimer.org/Leaking-water-heater.html
For example, if you have electric water heater leaking from element, then replace element.
Replace leaking TP valve.
If water is leaking down vent pipe, and combustion chamber rusted out, then vent problem must be corrected.
These are not covered by warranty.
If tank is rusted out, then read below.

2) If water heater is rusted out after 4 years, you might have stray current corrosion.
This happens when hot and cold pipes are not connected together with a ground wire, and/or if cold water pipe is not grounded to earth.
This might not be covered by warranty.

3) Read water heater instruction manual for advisories.
Tanks rust out when anode rod is depleted. Softened water depletes anode rod faster.
Instruction manual says to check anode rod each year.
Checking anode rod is like checking oil on an engine. If oil was never checked and engine burned up, the manufacturer will not honor the warranty.
If anode rod is depleted, and tank is rusted out, the warranty might not cover the rusted tank since owner was supposed to check for anode depletion.

4) Anode rods can also be covered with calcium deposits and stop working.
This night not have anything to do with water softener, but anode stops working and tanks rusts out.
In any case the owner's manual probably says to check anode rod to prevent leaking from rusted tank

I don't have a problem, just a question. I recently purchased a home with a GE Smartwater softening system installed Model GXSF23Z01. What do I need to do to maintain this system. Does it require salt?...

Check the time of day, and make sure it's accuate. Reset if necessary. Add salt if it's low. It's always best to let the salt level run low (about 1-2") so it doesn't mush. Only add 80-100 lbs at a time for best results. This particular softener doesn't keep a water level in the tank, so you won't see any water in the salt area. If there is standing water in the salt area, that could mean it's not working the way it should. Here is a link to the owners manual. It's in PDF format

Bosch tankless watwer heater GWH 2700 ES NG - no error codes. I have low water flow on my hot water and unit will not start? reviewed trouble shooting guide, tried everything - no solution?

Hi,
The unit is plugged up with mineral buildup from the water going through it... it will need to be cleaned internally....this is done by running an acid solution through it to clean out the mineral buildup...

Then it will work again...

Will the Grundfos RCP-96 model work with my Rinnai tankless heater model # C85e-1?

Grundfos RCP-96 has Flow range: 0 - 27.5 U.S. GPM
According to Amazon spec sheet:
http://www.amazon.com/Grundfos-RCP-96-UP515-55SFC-Recirculator-Timer/dp/B00128BJAO

Most tankless require .4 GPM to start burner and .25 GPM to maintain burner
Rinnai does not show C85e-1 so you will have to consult your manual to see minimum water flow requirement.
http://www.rinnai.us/tankless-water-heater/
Sample manual from Rainnai mentions 'minimum flow rate' several times but doesn't give specific number. Yet promotion blurb on page 1 says "Ultra operates at a lower minimum flow rate."
http://www.rinnai.us/documentation/downloads/U290-665x0200_Condensing_Manual_EN_FR_1-2010.pdf
Another rinnai manual mentions flow rate several times in troubleshoot section yet fails to define what that rate is:
http://www.rinnai.us/documentation/downloads/U287-1833_VB_Series_R75LSi_R94LSi_R98LSi_Manual_EN_FR_EN_FR.pdf

It might seem that tankless promoters are CTA by failing to mention specific flow rate numbers.
I think tankless promotion is a definite overachiever, and vague flow rate is one tiny example.
It proves the necessity of reading whole manual and asking questions before buying a tankless.
There's another factor to consider:
All performance numbers are based on new products in ideal circumstance, and not based on a 4 year old product located in your home.

Your flow rate may vary, especially over time, and especially if water in your area is not crystal clear, and you are not diligent with correct water softener and filter.
Many factors can affect flow rates: water pressure, number of elbows, clogs in the line, sediment, size of pipe, aireators, water-saving shower heads, local water conservation policies, water well pressure, MUD district pressure issues, your home located near end of a water main, etc.

Error 1 on my GE Water Softener

You need the brand as well along with the model number. If you go to the website of the brand, usually they have a manual for you to download. I bet the module has gone bad and probably need to be replaced but I would double check the power to the unit and also look for corrosion around the controls.

Bosch water heater won't heat as hot or as long as it used to.

Is it protected by a water softener?

Have you cleaned the inlet screen and flow valve?

Your problem is likely in one of those areas. If not them then you may have to backflush the heat exchanger (if you don't have a softener). The manual tells you how to do that.
