It might be the inverter but with out knowing if it is a flat screen or a reguler monitor i will not be able to tell you . you might have to take it to a computer place near you but for now my suggestion is to plug your old one back in for now intell you get the other on looked at

thanks

hope this works for you

Dell latitude lcd screen lamp dims

It could be 3 things:

1) Windows settings:
  • Click "Start" and then "Control Panel."
  • Click "Power Options."
  • Click "Choose when to turn of the display" located in the left-hand sidebar of the Control Panel interface.
  • Set "Dim the display" to "Never" for "On battery" and "Plugged in" and then click "Save."
2) Ambient light sensor:
Some latitudes come with an ambient light sensor which automatically changes your brightness depending on ambient light. Toggle it on/off by holding down the Fn key and then pressing the Left arrow key.

3) Brightness turned down.
Latitudes all have adjustable brightness, press the Fn key plus the up/down keys to adjust. Some old latitudes have this setting on the F5/F6 keys instead of up/down. Look for blue icons that looks like lit and unlit suns.

If the above fail, your CCFL (Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp) tube in your screen is possibly going bad. They are $10-$20 on ebay and pretty easy to replace. Just search for "CCFL" on ebay and include the exact latitude model you have. All CCFL tubes use the same power, just the length matters, but people on ebay include model numbers so you can be sure it will be an exact fit with your laptop.

Replacing the CCFL is easy, you will need a phillips screw driver, and possibly a shim/flat-head screw driver, that's it. Just watch a related youtube video by searching for "how to replace ccfl latitude" for a number of good step-by-steps.

Plzzz Help I have a Toshiba Satellite i dropped it but it ran perfect for 15 minutes or so them the screen went extremely dim. I assumed it was the screen so had one overnight installed that , still same...

Check the inverter again by connecting an external CCFL backlight from another screen that you know, works - see if the backlight lights up on any of the screens. If any one the screens light up then it's NOT the inverter. If one doesn't light, then the CCFL bulb is bad on it because you proved that the Inverter is good.

I have an hp pavillion laptop that has not worked in a few months first the screen was black when you turned it on. now i can see the screen somewhat but not 100% its dim please help

Have you tried connecting an external monitor? If an external monitor works good, then you'll have to replace your lcd screen. You may be able to replace it yourself. You can purchase a service manual for you laptop online through ebay. If not then it's going to be your internal display adapter and that will require a trip to the shop.

Acer netbook AO751h screen does not work, external monitor works fine.

Hello !

Since an external monitor works, it is the display's backlight or inverter board.

If you were experiencing discoloration in the screen (pinkish lower light hues) before it failed, that would indicate a CCFL backlight issue. If the screen suddenly went dim on you rather than a slow degradation the inverter would be indicated.

Hope this helps.

I have a compaq presario 2500 laptop was working on it last night stepped away and when i went to get back on it the screen was dark like it was in sleep mode i can hook to a desktop and see screen.

Replacing laptop LCD inverter board is quite a job but this is what you need to do if it is under warranty Have HP do this.

If it isn't warrantied, you can buy these off of ebay for 9 dollars that's what I had to do it worked for me. Good Luck

LCD screen not lighting

It sounds like the Backlight for your laptop gave out.

Heres a simple test to see if THAT is the case

Power it up while under a bright light 100W or better possibly even sunlight on a sunny day. Move the screen at varying angle to the light. If you can see what appears to be a "Shadowy" image of your desktop then YES indeed your backlight went out.

Your backlight should be replaced by an experienced service tech. Unless you are comfortable with working with high voltage electronics (The backlight has a charge capacitor) that can injure you if you are not careful.

There is a VGA connector on the back of your laptop. You can plug in a monitor to that so you may use your laptop. (Until you can get it fixed) Just plug in the monitor and press <Fn> and <F5> to switch to the external display

Hope this helps
