Question about HP DeskJet 880c InkJet Printer
I have a HP 880C deskjet printer. The carriage drive belt has broken. I am a do it your selfer and would like to replace the belt myself. I believe the belt number is C4557-40049. Where can I get the belt and instructions for replacing? Shouldn't be too difficult I would think.
Just re-did the same fix that a friend attempted, for another friend, because the new belt either came off the back of the ink cartridge, or was never re-attached. It was slow going at first, but I finally got it apart and re-attached it. I'm mechanically inclined and have been repairing appliances, cars, and computer stuff for years as a hobby/necessity. Therefore, I would not recommend this for a beginner, unless you know how to "Google", have a lot of patience, are very careful, and can learn as you go. If not, you'll probably break something and wish you hadn't wasted your time.
The main "trick" so-called, is getting the print cartridge to drop down in the "park" position at the far right to put the belt into the clasp on the rear. There is a capping/parking mechanism underneath that can first be removed (one screw at the front), to allow it clearance. It has a sponge to absorb ink drips and may be wet and messy-beware. HP ink really stains! I can't describe every step, but if this doesn't scare you so far, you can probably figure out the mini-steps omitted. One other tip: if you bump loose a thin cellophane looking strip as long as the printer width, the printer will not get its queue for the park or service position. That seems to be its function. One last tip: If you can't get the case apart for access, you probably are not the one to attempt this fix. If you like challenges and go slow and don't force plastic parts you'll get there. Hope this helps and good luck. ---RPM
