WD320 mybook power supply is lost

I want to buy a transformer locally but don't know what the right output / polarity is. Anyone have one that can read me the specs?

I know the voltage current etc - what I really need to know is the polarity - is the centre pin positive or negative? It's a 50/50 chance of kapowee, Goodnight Sooty.

Just bought an aditional DC-supply because I'm miles away from the original.

I can confirme that center pin is positive voltage.

Assuming you are in the U.S. you can buy the power supply directly from WD

Here is the link...

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/accessories.asp?ProdID=247

Surprisingly it is not that expensive $9.99 plus P&P

If you are not in the US, you should be able to buy a convertorvto suit your wall socket.

Hope This helps

Hi. I have a LaCie Hard Drive designed by Poulton with N2870 on it. I've misplaced the external power cord adaptor, and need to know what kind to get. The guys at Radio Shack said they need to know: ...

I have the same one. The power supply I have says input 100-240V output is 24W 12V 2A.
I'm replacing the power supply but my big problem is not knowing the polarity of the tip There is no sticker on the hard drive itself or on the power supply (that I suspect is fried). Can anyone help?

Dear Sir/ Madam, I have TWO Western Digital USB

first of all , you are looking at the wrong voltages. The important voltage is the DC OUTPUT, which is the voltage the external harddrives use AND the polarity of the plug attached to the harddrive end of the cable.
if both the harddrives have say 12v dc output and both have the insignia of the center conductor being + (posative) then you can interchange them. and you CAN run a 9volt unit with 12volt DC power, but not the other way around.
Look at your power adaptors again for the OUTPUT and polarity.
should be a half-circle with lines depicting the polarity(+,-) of the center and sheild connections to the hard drives printed on both the harddrives and the power adaptors . This can also be tested with a dc volt meter while the adaptors are plugged into the wall.
DO NOT try to test the AC end while plugged in!!

What external power does SmartDisk FireLite FWFL120-N take?

Many USB power supplies will have the right plug. I picked one up by buying a cheap USB hub, What you want to look for (most likely on the bottom of the power supply) is VOLTAGE Output: 5.0 VDC, POWER Output: 1.0 amp or (1000ma) and the center hole is the positive side. I have even seen some BluTooth earpiece charges that supply what you need.

Hope that this will help.

I have an wd 500gb external hard drive.it will not power up. i think it is the transformer does anybody know where i can get one or fix it?

With voltmeter, check voltage from the transformer if you think it is a power issue. If it is faulty, Radio Shack may have something with the right size connector and voltage. Ebay is another option. However be forewarned that MyBook by WD are known to blow up the drive controller board. My 500GB "World Edition" did so after 1.5 yrs. Drive spins but no access. Took controller board out and found burned chip pins.

Although not sold at Best Buy™, there are available adapters/cables to make this transfer possible. I recommend using a search engine to find "firewire to usb." Hopefully this will give you the results you need.
