Removed coins now won't work Maytag MAH2400

I heard a loud grinding noise while draining. Took apart drain pump and there was a quater with some plastic parts (WAS THAT THE BLADE???). After removing the quarters the machine will only turn on. I can not change settings or do anything. Please help.

I'm having a similar problem. I think there is a coin stuck in the pump, but after reading your thread, I'm afraid to try to take it out myself. Please let me know if you find a solution to your problem.

I had the same problem, found a screw in when my machine made that awful noise, drained the water and white plastic bits came out with the water. The pump motor works, but the water drains out so SLOWLY that the machine resets itself while spinning. If I manually change the cycles to rinse, then spin, it eventually WILL drain all the water out, but I don't want it to completely break down before I fix it. Will replacing the drain assembly (#26) fix it?

I realize this is an old thread but just in case. When you removed the inbound hose to the pump (the hose that comes from the bottom of the drum) there should have been some sort of screen in place to block objects (typically coins) from entering the pump and subsequently damaging the impeller (the little fan that moves the water inside the pump). Good luck finding the replacement part. Mine wasnt there, but I got this from a friend who has pets. He had it serviced a while back. I found that typically a service tech will remove the screen if he finds a ton of pet hair clogging it. Keeps him out of trouble since the pet hair will accumulate in there again and cause a repeat problem. The customer, thinking he just paid good money for that repair, is upset and starts complaining and calling the first repair tech a crook.

Another repair tech told me this too: If you have babies in the house, you need to purchase a laundry bag. This is just a small mesh bag to put baby socks in so they arent running around loose inside the drum during washing. These little socks WILL fit inside the drain hose and clog up the pump, just like the coins do.

All in all, taking extra care not to load coins into your laundry and purchasing a small mesh bag to put the really small items in, like T-backs and baby socks, will go a long way in preventing pump failures.

I replaced the pump on mine after the same problem. It's really easy to do - just turn the machine upside down, remove a few screws and pull out the attached hoses. (Keep a bucket handy to drain any water.) I also found a hard plastic gutter guard, sawed off the bottom and wedged that into the hose in case any coins make their way into it again.

Maytag MAH2400AWW will not drain, yes this seems to be a comman problem with this machine. When it was under warranty a service man came out because it was making a clinking sound while it was in the rinse/drain cycle, he pulled the pump off there was a dime floating around in there. That was over a year ago, yesterday my wife said there was a code "nd" showing on the machine and it wouldn't drain. I pulled the same pump off again and sure enough this time there was a quarter wedged in there, not allowing hardly anything to drain. I got lucky it did not seem to hurt anything. Hope this info helps.

My washer just came to the end of the wash cycle and started making a loud grinding noise when it is time to drain. It won't drain.

from your description , there is something interfering with the impeller in the water pump
could be button, coin , hair clip, bra wire that has damaged the impeller blades
Rather than mess around trying to repair I would just get a new unit as the same time and difficulty is for both operations

Maytag MAV7550AWW makes very loud noise while draining, although it still drains and spins out.

Check the pump. Maybe a coin or something got in the impellers. Another is to check the belt and pulley along with the mounting of the pump.

Maytag Neptune MAH8700A tha detergent drawer is filling up with water and running out of the drawer onto the floor not going into the tub.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Belt, Water Pump If the washer won't drain the pump belt might have broken or might have worn out. Check the belt and replace if it shows signs of excessive wear.

Drain Pump If the washer won't drain water the drain pump might be defective. It's also common for a small sock or other article of clothing to get caught in the drain pump or in the drain hose. Check both for an obstruction before replacing the pump.

Clogged Pump or Hose If the washer won't drain there might be a clogged pump or hose. It's common for small socks or other small clothing items to get into the water drain system and clog the hose leading to the pump or the pump itself. Remove the hoses from the pump in order to remove the article of clothing. Keep in mind that any water in the washer will pour out of the hoses when removed.

Drive Belt If the washer won't drain, should check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't drain properly, if at all.

Lid Switch Assembly If the washer won't drain the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't drain the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Drain Hose If the washer won't drain water check the drain hose. Be sure the hose did not get kinked behind the washer. Also, remove the hose from the pump and check it for obstructions.

Coin Trap If the washer won't drain the coin trap may be clogged. This washer is equipped with a device near the water pump called a coin trap. The purpose of this device is to trap any foreign materials that make their way down the drain. Normally, the coin trap can be accessed through an access panel. It is designed with the homeowner in mind and is normally easy to clean out.

The water won't drain out of my HJA8552-HJA8513 washing machine. For a couple of washes before it stopped draining it made a very loud noise...What could be wrong with it?

There is a possibility that something like a coin has got stuck in the impeller of the drain pump, you may want to check and clean the drain pump, in most of the machines there are coin traps provided look for the same in you machine.

I heard a noise that sounded like it was grinding marbles and now it will not work and there is water in the washer.

Peggy,
“”I heard a noise that sounded like it was grinding marbles and now it will not work and there is water in the washer.””
With the washer not working do you have an error code to the LED display? Can expand on the washer not working?
Do you here the grinding noise in wash/agitate cycle when the tumblers are turning?
If so you need to remove the tumblers and see if there are any coins under the tumblers. See page 37 of the Service Manual.
The SM doesn’t call out the torx driver size required for tumbler removal it’s a #20 torx driver.
You can enter into Service Mode and empty the wash water with this process.
To pump out the excess tub water;
I would go to page 16 of the SM lower right hand part of page, Board Output Test and turn on the drain pump in service mode to pump out the tub.
Enter Service Mode by simultaneously pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”
Pressing the Delicates key will lock the lid. Now press the Presoak key the drain pump will turn on. Stop with off button or hit the Presoak key.

Hi, the drain pump impeller is damaged. you will need to replace the entire pump(drain) in this case.

You will hear this noise when the impeller become separated from the actual drive stud or, shaft.

Grinding Noise when Washer Attempts to Spin

It is probably the same problem because it is trying to drain during the spin cycle. My machine sounded as though a chain wis clanking, the solution was removing a coin caught in the drain pump. Access the pump from the bottom of the machine. 4 screws hold the mounting bracket on undo those, the electrical connection and two hose to the pump. Undo three screws holding impeller to motor and coin can fall out. Examine for damage if it is not too tore up, put back together. Keep in mind that when you unclamp the hoses that water will come out.

Nasty Noise when Maytag MAH-24 pumps-out

Unplug the machine. Tip the machine back. Take the plastic cover loose from the bottom front of the machine. There are 4 screws on the right front side of the machine that form a square. Remove those and take the spring clamps off the pump hoses and wire connector. Whatever water that is in the machine will come out, have a bucket or shop vac ready. The coins or other foreign objects that are in the pump can now be removed. Hope this helps
