I can't get the case open for a compaq presario 5301-- there's got to be some idiotic trick that I can't figure out

    The front bezel is a permanent ornament;I finally slid a plain kitchen knife under the back bends from which a had removed the screws and from there, with some effort, eas able to slide the chassis forward. Thanks though -- I really did consider smashing that front plastic piece though.

Have you tried taking off the front bezel? That will reveal more.

How do I remove the hard drive from a Compaq Presario PC


To be specific we'll. Need the model. But if it's a desktop simply open the case. Make sure it is unplugged of course. Make sure you touch the metal case of the computer before you touch hard. Drive. This will discharge any static on you. They will be a 2 cables on the hard drive unplug them.

Turns on with no display and beeps


The motherboard is unable to talk to the computer's video card , RAM, or CPU. you'll need to open the case up to troubleshoot and re-seat the components/figure out what's wrong. (or of course bring it to a computer repair shop if you don't know what you're doing inside the machine).

How do i replace back up batterry (cmos) in my desktop presario


The BIOS battery in most desktop motherboards is a coin size lithium battery approx. 20mm in diameter. The most common type used is a CR2030 3volt lithium battery.
To release the battery, press the metal clip to the side and the battery should pop up.

There is a little hole next to the drawer above or below.
Straiten out a paper clip and push it in the hole this will release the drawer and it will open
