Our old samsung frig with freezer above fails to cool. tho the freezer continues to function. I am told there is a duct somewhere that water from the auto defroster passes thru and that it sometimes freezes or otherwise clogs. we have left the unit without power overnight (and it is hot here) but the situation remains the same.

Is the compressor running? If so, feel the discharge line is the line cold? If not the unit is probably out of Freon, which means it will have a leak somewhere in the system.

This is a freon problem. The fan will not run if the freezer coil is above 25*F.

hi do you have a volt ohm meter pull the back out of freezer check the element see if it has continuity if so it may be the timer witch should be somewhere near the thermostat hope this helps you jim

See if the thaw out works for you first. Water will drain from the unit but if the amount of draining has increased, there may be an issue somewhere.

Make sure both condenser and evaporator fans are running. Is it possible that you might have something blocking the air flow from the freezer to the fridge?! Can you hear the fan running up on top?

Is that everything in your freezer or just in the fridge. Is this a frostfree model. Often if defrost fails in a frost free model then it is unable to duct cold air to the refrigerator side of things. To fix- turn it off for a day or two.

i'm thinking that maybe an air duct is either blocked or the damper isnt opening. In the freezer compartment at the top right side there is a cover that is held in place by 1 screw. (look at item number 35 here). remove this cover and make sure ice is not blocking it up. if that is ok, then check the damper control to be sure it is opening and closing properly. The damper is located on the refrig side in the control cover (look at item# 8 here).

give the unit a full defrost then unblock the drain hole. it sounds like the tiny defrost heater element may not be working and is therefore causing excess frost to build up on the freezer evaporator. also check door seals are not holled anywhere.
